I'm in a dilemma. Been working from a room since Monday that I've rented off someone. Have paid my rent daily.

I arranged with him the other day to stay till Tuesday night.

Out of the blue tonight he asked if I could pay the next five days up front tomorrow. The thought of it horrified me and I was put on the spot so I said I couldn't tomorrow but on Saturday I would see.

Even when I tour using hotels I never pay for more than one or two days in advance. But this is a flat that could potentially be closed down any time due to the set up in there.

Now trying to think how I can tell him that I just want to pay one day at a time.

I so wish he hadn't asked me.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

If you are asking then you know you don't want to ....................

I wouldn't pay more than one or two days ahead definitely.  Like you say it could go wrong and you could have paid for nowt.  Be careful.

And you can also pull a dissapearing act and leave without paying :-) not to sound nasty but any hotel where you book for five days you need to pay in advance...In an hotel they have your credit card number (jn case you decide to overstay) but this guy renting you by the day doesn't have anything, so I can understand why he would ask the money in advance.

I give him one day in advance when I arrive. For that same day. Just done want to pay for the next day or the one after that till I get there so I wouldn't be able to run off owing him anything. Yes I could do a runner but wouldn't owe him anything or have used his facilities for free. I don't book hotels or serviced apartments for any more than one or two days at a time. On some occasions with two nights stay I have done as two separate bookings so I can cancel Day 2 if need be. With some hotels you would be refunded if you left early but could wait days for refund.

In this case this is a flat with too many girls and there's every chance he could be closed down(I've been there in the past at other flat) or the landlady could decide to chuck him out.

I just feel like an idiot for saying I would try to do it and now want to tell him I can't or won't.

Just tell him you will continue to pay him as and when you use the property, why should you feel like an idiot because you choose to go by what was the rule to start with? He is running a place which sounds illegal anyway, someone who sounds greedy and thinks hookers are roling in it so he will try anything to get his hands on what they are supposedly earning. You could pay him upfront and end up being ill or whatever. Stick to what was decided in the first place and stick to it no matter what he says.

Sadly in multi girl apartments we all know that it just takes one disgruntled client with any one of the other girls for the police to be notified and plod coming in.  Unless someone is working on their own permanently then we know they can arrive.  We know it is only the person who is on the rental agreement or similar that may get done but it is the inconvenience it can cause to our business not to mention if you have someone with you when they enter.  :(

I've been there and it's not nice. The plod took my mobiles for three days as well to see what info there was on her. I had to go and buy replacement sims. Was fully booked that day too and lost out on all that!  :FF

if your asking us then your gut is telling you not to do it

However i might compromise and say i can pay for 2 days in advance and then a further 2 days in advance but not the whole amount
