Web hosting yay or nay for going solo?
« on: 05 September 2011, 12:41:16 am »
Hello  all,

(Haven't been on here for a while as took some time out. Missed the work so much rejoined with an agency. But, as usual, surprise surprise  I do feel fed up. The great thing about the agency is that the driver security already exists as does the out call places. However,  as with the last time I was with an agency I hate the hours, the lack of flexibility and control you have over your own work. Plus, they take  at least half of your hard earned money.

I'd really like to go solo, but I tried this last time and found it a daunting propsect. Not the thought of the work, but the whole sorting out photos, website,,  getting a driver. I  do not  want to work from home so would have to have driver/ security and somewhere to work. Yup, all you indies are prob readint this saying oh poor you we all did it hehe. i take my hat off to all of you.)

Anyway, i am wondering if it is worth paying for someone to host website? I see a couple advertised on the main forum but is it worth the money? Please advise thanks

Hosting the website basically means putting it on the internet so people can see it, and you do need to pay for this (free options will either not allow commercial sites or have ads, so it's worth paying a little and looking more professional), but I think you're really asking about web design (hosting is often included in the service). See this thread for a discussion on setting up a website yourself and see how you feel about it:

I agree with this I don't use a free site and pay about ?7 a month but I can pretty much do what I like and the support service is great.  :)

Hiya,

I actually meant would paying someone else to set up a website be worth the money? I am okay with computers but actually building a website from scratch Im finding impossible. Yup, thanks for link will go and check it out...

Its one of those things that's got easier and easier to do yourself. Most hosting sites have templates so the the sites there you just add the info and pics you want then when you get more confident you change it  :)

Hi there,

I would say it is definitely worth it to get a website designed as it would attract a lot of traffic. You could build one by yourself I believe by using  Wordpress, Joomla or Drupal (they have standard templates) but you will have to do a bit of reading first. Or I believe moonfruit allows you do build a basic one.

If not try searching the internet for companies that build escort websites ( do not pay more than ?300) or go on freelancer UK where you can post an advert and say how much you are willing to pay and then you will get bids from different people and you can go for the cheapest one.

Hope it helps x

Might be. It depends on various factors including how you feel about doing it yourself. If you're finding it impossible then the alternative is not to have a website, so is the real question "is it worth having a website even if I have to pay for it"?
