Vaginal problems after sex
« on: 03 September 2023, 12:35:39 pm »
I noticed a couple of months ago that my wee was burning my vulva and it felt almost like thrush symptoms; however I quickly realised it wasn’t thrush or a urine infection.
I’m peri-menopausal and take HRT and my mum said that she’d been prescribed oestrogen cream by the doctor for the same symptoms.
I got the cream and it does help to a degree but I’m finding after about 3 sex sessions (and I’m not exactly going hard at it) that my vulva is tender.
I’ve had to apply a hot flannel and salt water inbetween bookings on a busy day.
Does anyone else have this or has experienced these symptoms?
It’s such a hindrance to the job.
I should mention that I also use a high quality lubricant (Liquid Silk) very liberally.

I know it's the flip answer, but are you using latex condoms? That was exactly the symptoms I had years ago and it turned out I was latex sensitive (I would have to stop after two some days because I felt like I'd been set on fire, which isn't great when you're in am expensive hotel).

I have no idea whether HRT/hormone changes can bring it on but it was completely out of the blue for me after years of working and using lots of condoms so you never know? :)

Thanks, Amy. I’ll order some non latex condoms and give them a go. It’s certainly worth a try.

Also, if you can afford it, go to somewhere like Randox and have a private STI test for c. £100. There are a lot of bacterial infections that the NHS doesn't test for

Have skin problems been ruled out? I didn't have the same symptoms as you, but I had severe itching on my vulva as well as soreness and sometimes some of the skin starting to split. The friction from sex and my vulva being touched a lot made it worse at times. I was concerned about STIs but all my tests were negative, so I went to a private dermatologist who has particular experience with genital dermatology and was diagnosed with genital psoriasis. Steroid cream and emollient has helped quite a lot. Not sure if this is relevant to what you're experiencing, but thought I'd share just in case it might be of any help. Hope you get some relief soon!

That sounds awful!

I’ve read online that it could be the ph balance that is off. They suggest boric acid caplets, which I happen to have so I’ll try one of these tonight. I’ve also got balance active gel.

Sex was really uncomfortable at work today and one more to go  :(

It really was! I definitely made it much worse by scratching so much, but it was near impossible not to as the itching was absolutely maddening. Anything that rubbed against the area that was affected could be really sore. I still get a bit of itching sometimes, but nowhere near how it was before.

Hopefully that helps.

Oh no, I hope the last booking is less uncomfortable for you.
