No, do not risk it - make-up sponges are made of polyester foam which has strong links to toxic shock syndrome.  However, if the pharmacy has a natural bath/sea sponge, I think you can use that.

As someone who had non-tampon related TSS, just don’t risk it. I nearly died and TSS isn’t a quick one to diagnose.

I have always used baby ramer Sponges. Never had problems. I follow a gyno on YouTube that said you should not used sea Sponges. Its easy for bits to break off and ge left inside you. I know girls who rinse out baby wipes and fold them up but I have never used them. Apparently they work better if you a bleeding heavily. If you use a pad or cup after you remove the wipe/sponge then that will help the blood flush out any nasty chemicals or small bits of Sponge.

i dont bleed heavily but there's no way on earth i would use baby wipes. anyway, i ended up not using anythng and i pretended that my period just came during sex. client was very easygoing anyway and didn't make a fuss. although it probably bothered him deep inside. the period sponges arrived the next day at least im ready for next month

I would never say to put anything inside you unless it was an emergency but I think a wipe or using a sponge for one booking or for the day (just replacing the wipe used if you cant go out and shop) could be the difference between rent and no rent so just make sure that you take note of symptoms of TSS if you need to use these methods.

I have literally cut off the brillo side of a new wash sponge so I could use the soft sponge part when I was really desperate. Now I always have safe sponges I take with me at all times even when I'm not due on (always in my suitcase for incalls and for outcall I can always pop it in in the bathroom!) in case of this.
