To take a longer break or not to take a longer break?
« on: 19 July 2011, 11:02:43 am »
I've been traveling, on a break from the business for the past month or so... and I have a few regular clients clamoring to see me. I'm not sure if I take a few more months off, if I'll lose all of my regulars. I can go without the income (temporarily), but I'd hate to have to start up my whole business again from scratch.

I told myself that I wouldn't ever push myself to work in this business, and I'm really not in the mood... but I haven't hit my savings goal yet, and I'm not sure that I'm ready to permanently walk away.

Should I try it out with a few clients? Change my marketing strategy? Take the time off and see if I start to get into the mood?

How long does it take to lose all of your regulars? If I take off six months, will I have to start over from nothing? Has anyone here taken an extended break?

SAAFE, help! :)

Yes I took 8 mths off to start another business last year...  And to be honest I wasn't sure if I would return at all, but found myself missing the double life and freedom not to mention the cash!  (in my real life everyone knows where I am or should be, bloody annoying)  ::)

But when I returned I had a very busy few weeks... As regulars were just so pleased I hadn't retired ,
because that's what I was talking about before  disappearing  ???
they had seen other girls but most do anyway, and I didn't lose out as most returned. I certainly didn't have to start from scratch again.

Think i Only lost a few,  Can't really remember loosing any good clients tbh... And i was so ready to come back  after so long, it really refreshed the job for me and now Im really enjoying it again  ;D

If you need the break take it... You will know when or if it's time to return... Sometimes you need time out to look after you! X

Over the last 8 years I have taken off big chunks of time every now and then, the longest was a year, and pretty much still had the same regulars when I returned.  Sometimes it takes a little while for them to find you again if you've changed your number or whatever but I would say 80% will continue booking.  Its better to take the extra time off and come back refreshed than to work when you are still a bit burned out imho.

I worked in Hungary 3 YEARS ago. This year I returned and many previous regulars came back! I was astonished that they even remembered me but it seems that if they like you, you can be away for a really long time and they will still go back :)

Having moved a way away I can't wait to build up a regular client base again!
