Tips for photo shoot please - hair etc
« on: 22 August 2011, 10:58:59 pm »
Hi All,

I have taken the plunge and paid a deposit for a photo shoot.  I am rather nervous and have been putting it off for months.  So it's in 4 weeks time. (time to diet and trim up a little).

I have bought a hair piece, but am a little worried that since it's longer  than my natural hair clients may prefer it and then think Mmm is this the same girl.  I am doing the hair thing as I imagining that having your own website takes you away from the crowd and therefore need to be extra careful.  I am not sure what to do, but have time to plan and really want to be extra careful and sensible too and not disappoint..

At the moment I have pretty bad pics and am always told they do not do you justice.. etc etc but the last thing I want is do is to disappoint anyone, so any suggestions will be helpful... Oh I have bought a hat as a prop too.

Thanks

x

For makeup try "Face Forward" or "Making Faces" by Kevyn Aucoin. I did my own makeup for my brother's wedding (so I would look good in the photos). There are great tutorials!! Drink a lot of water and remember that the flash will wash you out so put on tons more makeup than you think you will need.

tbh without knowing what you look like its hard to give opinion on what you should do with your hair.

It can get quite hot doing photo shoots so bare that in mind if you hair gets frizzy easily/if you wear it in front of your face etc

With pro photoshoots, it's the photographer's job to make sure you look good - and the makeup artist's! I like to get my pics done somewhere where hair & makeup is done for me so I can relax about those things. Then, all you need to do is focus on fun ideas for outfits, props and poses - what is the studio like, where you're going? Is it a big empty room or an old home with lots of furniture (chairs, beds, mirrors etc)? If the latter, there are tons of poses and different things to try. Practice some poses before you go to find out what suits your figure best, and make sure the photographer is friendly and happy to give you guidance as well as listening to what you want.

Also, decide beforehand if you'd like any topless, nude or implied nude pictures. Along these lines, I'd say the most important thing to be thinking about here is your escort persona (photoshoots are a great way to have fun portraying this) and the image/message you want to put across. You could have quite demure, simple photos, or you could go for elaborate, fancy ones, or an arty tone with black and white or anything really!

They say pictures tell a thousand words so if you figure out a way to have your pictures reflect your work persona, services and USP(s), you'll not have to worry so much about clients failing to do anything on your website except see the photos and call your number. ;D

Thanks you all....

I guess my concern is just my hair really.... I am wanting to use a hairpiece to change/hide but worried about me not wearing it for appointments then looking different as far as the client is concerned... eg... reality medium long hair, but in the pics long hair... defo going to have face paint done at the shoot even though I will be blurred or shaded.  I just wondered if anyone did their shoot this way and was it a problem.  Like I mentioned, at mo my pics are not brill with my head chopped off so I only get bigged up comments when they see me, so that is always good.

Have a peep at Miss Boudoir, she looks great, pricey maybe. but I am hoping worth it.

Miss Boudoir is fab. She will put you totally at ease. She has loads of enthusiasm and ideas. Her make up artist will be able to advise you on the hairpiece. Just take it along and see what she says. Personally, I would ditch it. As you said, guys might be a bit disappointed if you turn up without the long and flowing locks on your pics and I never think they look totally natural. Saying that, I am always changing my hair style and colour! With new enquiries, I often get asked "what is your hair like at the moment?"

If you're worried about being recognised from the photos, I would say definitely go for the hairpiece.

When I had my first ever set of photos done, I posed with my hair over my face etc, but despite not being able to actually see my face in any of the photos, my hair gave me away - anybody who knows me would have known it was me  :-\

So I ditched that set of photos, bought a wig in a similar style/colour to my own, and wore that for the next lot.

Don't worry about clients being 'disappointed' - just say you've had your hair cut since the photos were taken - I can't see many cancelling because of that.  Even if a few do, you might decide it's worth it rather than run the risk of being recognised.

Thanks... yes... it is the risk of being recognised v's a possible client disappointment. Me Thinks the hairpiece and maybe I will trim it so its a but shorter but slightly different.

:) and maybe ask a few cliens their view. :) Arrrr now to slim n trim for 4 weeks time. :)
