Timekeeping
« on: 18 May 2011, 04:49:10 pm »
Hi Ladies,

I was just thinking about timekeeping today and wondering how everyone else keeps an eye on the clock. In my own place I have various discreet clocks about that I can easily see, and some Hotel rooms are great with a bedside clock and maybe the time showing on the tv set even when its switched off - but its not always so easy if you're on tour or on an Outcall. (I bet I'm not the only one who has got in a  muddle trying to work out the time on a digital clock thats reflected in a mirror!)

I dont like to make a show of looking at the time (unless someone needs a hint) so how do you manage? Do you set a discreet time alert on your phone? Wear a watch? lo lCare to share your hints and tips?

An amazing tip I learned on here was to make playlists on your mp3 player that are 30mins, 45 mins, 60mins etc long. Then you have a slightly more subtle cue as to what time it is than a super-loud bloody alarm. ;D

I actually wear the most massive watch all the time (bought it with a big tip from a very kind client! It makes me feel rich, ha) and just make sure to allow an hour or more in between if I'm seeing more than one person in a day. So normally it's my clients who are like, "Arrrghh what's the time?! I need to go back to work!" and I prefer it that way. Also, I have quite a good inner clock, but I think that takes time to develop!

This is genius! So is finding clients who give me tips large enough to buy a big fancy watch, but I suspect the Playlist will be easier to arrange :)

(It's not very fancy, it's just quite big. But don't tell anyone that I told you!)

I want a massive watch  :D. I can't wear things round my wrists (or my neck) because they drive me mad - years of working with food and not being able to wear jewellery's conditioned me, I think.

I have a pretty good inner clock (especially when the client is hard work) but I do keep a little alarm clock half-hidden behind the bits on the bedside table. I do wonder why sometimes because I can't see it without my glasses unless I'm less than a foot away, but I can check it when I go for a condom/wipe or whatever. I tried making playlists, but I have so much stuff on my ipod I found it too hard to decide what to put on them (and not everybody wants to shag to Filipino Box Spring Hog by Tom Waits  ;D) so I tend to use a combination of clock and guesswork. If the client has a watch on I generally glance at that too, but I'll admit I've made a few people late for work over the years. Hey ho.

I do take my clock with me if I'm working in hotels - not all of them have bedside clocks and since I tend to have more bookings and closer together I'm a lot more organised - I also set my phone to beep discreetly ten minutes after the end time just to be on the safe side, which definitely helps.

Digital watches may not be so fashionable now, but they can usually be made to go 'beep' every hour.

A while back, I bought a little disc that has seven LEDs on which can be made to glow more or less any colour. Attached to a little microcontroller, it lights up the 'under the stairs' space where the PC is here, slowly fading between random colours. I did think that it could be made into a silent timer - look pretty for 55 minutes, then say slowly flash green for five minutes, then flash red more rapidly to say 'time's up'.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

I have a fancy watch that has a covered face so at first glance just looks like a bracelet, then i can take a sneak look when needed. To be honest i am seriously thinking about just setting a time on my phone, ive lost track of time more than once which is very stressfull for my poor husband though he also texts when my times up.

that what i have done for years initially i did when i was working from adds in the papers and i had lots of clients that would try and take the piss
the music is mainly rnb soul stuff like
R kelly bump and grind  honey love  ect
Beyonce  halo and some of her older stuff
Another level  let me lick you up and down
brandy toni braxton ect
Boys 2 Men is the one that i finnish off with ( end of the rd lol  ;D

If they are client that i get the feeling i might not get on with  then i use a different play list which has some freak stuff on it like the them from 28 days later the zombie film  8)

i have 60 mins 30 mins 45 mins 90 mins and two hours

so for 60 mins its  12 song
45 mins  10-  songs
30 mins  -7

each one is the 30 min one with just more songs added to it  so i know where i am in the appointment ect

ipod eh where would we be without em

i even have the same playlist on my phone just in case i forget my ipod on an outcall

I actually say to the client at the beginning of our encounter  that I'm going to set a discreet alarm on my phone. I choose a nice gentle tune and don't set the volume unnecessarily high. It works perfectly and I'm completely relaxed as I can focus entirely on the appointment without having to divert my attention to watching the clock. None of the clients has complained, in fact all of them seem completely ok with this system and very obliging not to drag on the time after the phone alarm rings.
