Advice about moving
« on: 05 August 2016, 08:03:04 pm »
Im currently looking to move house and im trying to find somewhere to rent.  Im worrying about what type of place is best for my job.  So do any of you work from a mid-terrace property or have a property  where your door opens straight onto the road? If so, do you get nosey neighbours? Do you think being so exposed puts many clients off?  Any advice on choosing the right property greatly received xx

My work place is a terrace that's not overlooked by other houses. My neighbour to the left of me is very friendly but he hasn't said anything. I haven't a clue whether he knows what I do or not but I am low volume. I would be mortified if he did know though  :o

Best thing about my house is it's not leasehold  :)

I've lived and worked from a similar property without any problems. The only difference for me is that I'd not have been mortified if the neighbour knew, I wouldn't however have been happy if they'd then snooped or caused any problems for me or visiting clients.

I've worked from flats for the last two years or so so my experience is a little different.

I'd take into consideration the hours you usually work and whether you're low or high volume for bookings. Go see a variety of properties as each will have positives and negatives. Ask about neighbours too, are you in an area mostly with families/professionals/retired etc. As this may dictate how easily traffic to your door may go unnoticed too.

Good luck X

Yes, I'm in a terrace and it's fine. There's a little alleyway between me and one neighbour, who's out all day. On the other side my new neighbours are around more (mother with young children) but the soundproofing between our little Victorian houses is so good it doesn't matter. I'm on quite a busy road with no neighbours directly opposite. Plus, I'm low volume anyway.

I have been 'caught' saying hello or goodbye 2-3 times wearing something a little revealing, or at least unusual in the mid-afternoon, but I had quite an active 'social' life before escorting, so I don't think it's particularly raised any eyebrows, and I don't usually work past 11pm re. noise.

Just been accepted for a house. Its not ideal, its mid-terrace and front door opens direct onto the road. It has its merits though.  its 2 bed,  which im so happy about. So pleased i can keep clients out of my own bed. It has a bath! God ive missed those and i can now see clients walking down my street, so i feel safer and can see that they have actually turned up!

Anyway, just wanted opinions about quickies. I currently offer these where i am but realise it increases the likliness of being sussed out.

Only reason im asking is because yesterday one of my neighbours kindly informed me that a few months ago, my idiot twat neighbours above me reported me to the police for running a brothel!!  I dont run a brothel, i work alone and see between 2 - 5 men daily, 5 days a week! He just hates my guts and can hear me fucking i think. He works nights. And he has hated me ever since he and hig hag hung out of the window shouting at me for sunbathing topless in my garden :/

Congrats, I hope it works out.

I'm looking at moving back north soon and my ideal is an end of terrace or mid-terrace that's over or next to the ginnel, so I could send clients to the rear entrance (hurr hurr hurr.)

It's easier having a second bedroom, then you aren't having to change sheets after sleeping in them for just one night.

Also makes it easier to account for separate bedding, separate towels, separate wardrobe.

Talking about bedding, do any of you use single beds for work or are doubles best. Also,do you use duvets on the bed?

I work from home so I use a double. I have bedding but I have lots of the wee micro fleece throws to pop over the top and wash afterwards. They wash well and dry quickly so ideal :)

Double bed - not much room for me and someone else on a single! And yes, I use a synthetic duvet: a). they're easy to bung in the washing machine, and b). I find they're more comfortable to lie on than feather ones.
