Throat Gonorrhea
« on: 08 May 2012, 04:14:05 pm »
I hope you lovely ladies may be able to give me some advice....please. This is the first time I have posted a question on this forum, and I am so so glad that it is here. I don't personally know any other WGs and so have no one to sound off on this.

Have any of you ever had throat gonorrhea? I work for an agency where all girls offer OWO and we have all been advised to bring forward our tests as there seems to be a spate of throat gonorrhea cases.  I had my tests today and have to wait for 7 days for the results - I am not planning on working at all whilst I wait for the results.

If I have it, has anyone else ever had it? Did it go as soon as you took the antibiotics? I keep reading about strains that are antibiotic resistant! And what did you do about notifying previous clients? I work for an agency and dont have contact details for my previous clients (but do see some guys regularly) what do you suggest??

If I do have it I will need a jab to get rid of it before a further test and waiting another 7 days for results, so could be 2-3 weeks not working! Not good financially, although I have been sensible and put away some money so I wont have issues.

I am freaking out, as I have been having regular tests since I started working last summer and never had anything but I just feel that something isnt right with me (I had a serious bad throat a few weeks ago).

Any advice, similar situations would really help right now please.... Also, am feeling so much for some of my regulars as some of them do not have sex with their partners and only see me (so they say) so if I do have it and have passed it on to them what do I say??!

Thanks so so much,

Miss T

Throat swabs are my least favourite STI test, so you have my sympathy from the start.

Yes, gonorrhoea is evolving and many previous treatments are less effective than they were. If they're talking about a jab, should you test positive, you will be getting two antibiotics together which should work, but your local clinic will be the experts on what's working locally. I would have expected that test results would be available quicker than seven days, particularly as it's recommended that you wait seven days after the jab before resuming relevant sexual activity.

Being particularly heartless, I would say that clients either knew or should have known that there was a risk in OWO, but they were prepared to accept it. If they have caught anything then I would say that it's 'Oh dear, how sad, nevermind' time. They are much more likely to know already, of course, because it has noticeable symptoms in the penis - feeling like you're 'pissing broken glass' is the usual description - much more often than it does in the throat.

The agency is not particularly likely to advertise this by contacting everyone who's booked anyone affected in the past three months - it would be extremely damaging commercially - but it's good that someone's decided that everyone should be tested.

Is continuing to work, but not doing OWO an option?

Hi xw5,

Thanks so much for your prompt post and really useful help, advice and information. With regards to results, the clinic I use sends their tests off to the local hospital and so it can take 'up to' 7 days for results, but the lovely Health Advisor at the clinic said that if they came in earlier she would let me know and if it is positive I would be in the same day for antibiotics.

Yes - I could work and offer OW (although this would mean a white lie, along the lines of 'wisdom tooth problems so I need to do covered oral' with clients). I can afford not to work, so think a few days off is a good idea.

I took the decision when I started working that I was comfortable offering OWO, I looked at the risks and have been very fastidious, both in checking clients before, ahem, putting anything in my mouth, and in getting regular STI tests. The main thing that is worrying me right now is  that if I have it and have given it to anyone else I would feel so bad!  ???

Being concerned about passing something on is, I would say, in many ways a lovely response to have.

On the plus side, this is curable and you didn't make them have OWO - it was something they wanted.

And, as I say, if it has happened, it's highly likely that they've noticed.

Let's hope you haven't caught anything = no worries about passing anything on.

I've no experience with this, but a client several years ago did insist on OW because he himself had caught gonorhea from OWO with a girl he'd seen in a parlour situation.

I always remind GUM staff about the mouth and throat swabs.

Kurvy-Kate - I am glad that you are glad  ;) as you must make the decision that is right for you. I made the decision that I would do OWO and I accept that there are risks associated with it, but for me, as in any job where there are health or safety risks, these are calculated risks that I am prepared to take. I guess my issue is that, until you have been in a potential situation where you have an STI that you could have passed on you cant really know how you will feel, and I am realising how responsible I feel, despite (as xw5 noted) the fact that the client is making their own choice, also knowing the risks, to receive OWO.

Strawberry - I always obtain a throat swab at the GUM clinic where the staff know what I do, and am actually going to increase my frequency of this important test. I hope that everyone is getting this routinely done as my research into throat gonorrhea shows that it is invariably asymptomatic in women.

LouLou37 - It is certainly not my experience that all men have an expectation to receive OWO. I think part of the problem for me is that I automatically offer it, without even offering clients the choice AND without ensuring that they understand that there are risks to OWO (as I am sure that some men do not realise that they can catch STI's in this way!). Given this potential scare, I am rethinking my approach to this, and after reading some very useful posts on this forum I will be planning to try and get a cheeky inspection of their cocks pre-showering (I am sure I can introduce this in a sexy 'let me help you undress for your shower' way!) as I have ascertained that it is much easier to notice any puss (ewww, sorry!) or discharge on a cock that is not freshly clean from the shower.

Ladies - thank you so much for your valuable responses, I am still madly worrying (for others, less than myself) so this support is much needed and appreciated.

It won't be your experience if you automatically offer it - but try for a week or something take it off your advertising and just not offering it, and I bet a load of guys will go  :o and act all pouty and annoyed.  ;D

Like xw5, I don't think you should feel bad about clients perhaps contracting it from you if you do have it - they chose to partake in OWO of their own choice. You are responsible for your own sexual health, and them their own. They should have done their own research on what they could catch.

I'm not uncomfortable providing it as a service at all, it's only the STI risk which makes me not want to do it, if you see what I mean?

Everyone has to make their own decision on this. For me, it went something like

+ I like doing it
- I might catch something
+ The stuff I can catch tends to be curable
- The test makes me gag
+ I can reduce the risk by checking before sucking
- I don't like doing OW
+ I'd rather they came in my mouth than in a condom in my bum

So it wasn't hard for me to decide to do it. Other people have other thoughts.

I stopped doing OWO when I started dating. Health risks to me I can deal with, health risks to him I just cannot stand so yeah I lose clients actually, even today I had a 5 hour outcall and when i said I don't do OWO he cancelled. BUT while I'm with someone I just want put him at risk. But that said I'm sure there are other girls in relationships who do it and so long as their partners agree I think it's totally fine as well. As you've all said, personal choice.

But damn it it sucks when I loose clients for a bloody condom. They should invent special condoms just for oral that are like extra super thin or something... ???

Try the non-latex ones. You still have to get the clients in the room, mind.
