The worst thing I've ever had to do to a client...
« on: 26 June 2012, 07:21:37 pm »
Has anyone had a client send them a deposit for a travel booking and you were unable to make it the day of the appointment? Worst. Feeling. Ever. I'm risking a bad review, I have to find a way to get the money back to him.

Ugh, I'm hysterical right now. Let me elaborate. It was for a 2 hour booking and this city I was going to is some 800 miles away, driving (USA distance). I freaked out at the last minute because a few other emails were not responding/confirming. I would have only had 1 client confirming, and 2 inquries who have been communicating. I had about 3 others who did not respond when I mentioned my coming into town.

I freaked out and started worrying last minute, my bags and all packed up. I was afraid if I drove out for only 2 or 3 clients, by the time I paid for gas/hotel I'd break horribly even possibly spending more than I made. And last August I was going to make this trip, when all the clients who booked cancelled! I was already over 400 miles out at that time.

I explained to the client about it, but he's very upset saying why did I ask for a deposit and "oh well, guess I just live and learn" I feel absolutely petrified right now. But at the same time, last month I drove over 500 miles for 1 regular client of mine and 1 client cancelled, I ended up getting home with $-100 in my bank account because it was close to rent time and I'd used my card for gas.

So hope you can understand why I had the gut feeling to cancel, I did offer to reschedule and even announced it on my ads...but don't think the client will want to deal with me again.

To be fair Blaine, I can?t say I really blame the customer for being reluctant to have any other bookings with you. He paid you a deposit as he had been asked and was let down because you didn?t want to risk a bad tour at the last minute. That really isn?t his problem. It?s for you to plan your marketing in time to ensure you?re likely to have a successful tour and if you are anything less than concrete about going through with something then you shouldn?t accept money from people.  Of course I understand things do happen that prevent us from honouring our agreements but I think this came about as perhaps poor planning / bad luck and not something that was beyond your control (such as being on your deathbed for example). I would get his money back to him as soon as you can using whatever method he used to get it to you in the first place.

I offered to give back the money to him. He said to just not worry about it. It was $100 (not to make it sound petty, I've actually been filled with gloom and remorse)

I didn't mention, on top of all that...The account that was $-100, my bank moved my deposit from paypal to cover that account, meaning I got to use 0 of that money. Then, the day I was to leave my ad was expired and had to pay for that too. And by that time I would have really been pushing it...if the hotel asked for a large deposit on top of the amount I already paid I'd be fucked.

It wasn't just that I was afraid of not getting bookings, I just didn't feel comfortable going all that way with the money I had. It just seemed risky. I went to the bank today and got some of the money back from fees, but wasn't able to reschedule the appointment.

I told him I was SINCERELY regretful for letting him down and I have NEVER done it before. My bags been packed for the last 2 days...something in my gut was just telling me not to go. Either that, or I just thought it was insane to go all that way for only 2 confirmed bookings. It just seemed frightening to me.

Another thing that frightened me is the fact that nearly every client from that city I was going to, has cancelled last minute appointments on me, even when they were in my state.

For example, I had a client whom said he'd driven in from Arizona and had his horses and wanted to book me and pay me $300. Sounded pretty genuine. He was to book in 2 hours. Never heard from him again. Another one cancelled the morning of saying he'd found someone on craigslist. Those are just the 2 that I can think of at the moment.

I'm not justifying my cancelling on the client, but rather justifing my fears and why I was so reluctant. I know I should have just gotten over it and went anyway...but it's hard to take risks with little money. My motto was to always have enough to travel, 1 day hotel and enough to get back...without it having catastrophic effects for when you get home. Plus, $300 minimum in case of a breakdown AND I didn't have my AAA membership activated.

Yeah I'm a broke bitch. Fuck me. But in due time, I'll be that rich bitch. Gotta hand it to wills LOL.

In that case I wouldn?t worry about getting a bad review.
At the end of the day your safety and well being is the most important thing and I can understand how the factors you?ve just highlighted would make you reluctant to go through with your initial plans. Hope next time is better for you!  :)

I used to be more spontaneous and wouldn't think twice about getting on somewhere with even less money than that knowing I had a client waiting. However, what makes this different was the fact that all the ones booking wanted incalls which=getting a hotel which=me paying for it and possible deposit.

One time, it so happened that although I had cash on hand, it was Sunday and too late to go to the bank. I had pre-paid the hotel but they wanted a $100 deposit! If I paid in cash, they'd have to mail it back. Very unusual policy for a Best Western. I could not even check in, but luckily the client was hosting at his place and let me spend the night in his guest room. It took 4 days to get a refund from my bank.

Other times, hotels have surprised me by asking for $150 deposits for smoking...and I don't even smoke! And tricky, each hotel is run by indivivual managers so even though 1 hotel may ask for $20 deposit, another may ask for $50 or $100.

Ugh, I just can't get over it. When I stayed up and made that decision not to go on the tour, I did not realize how awful it'd make me feel.

All day I just been feeling depressed and like I just let people down and ultimately let myself down. There's just so much disappointment I'm feeling at the moment.

Actually, thinking about all of this...I've come to the realization I've put up with a lot of CRAP from clients, and to cancel once even though I got a deposit and then I don't even get a 2nd chance to reschedule? That's a bunch of bull.

If I can think of all the times I've traveled hundreds of miles for appointments, gotten hotels and promised appointments and a client flakes out...I think I have a couple more cancellation vouchers to use LOL.

There's also the clients who cancel constantly 2, 3 even 4 times in a row. And yet I'm more than generous and take up on their offer to see them again. And true, many of them have stuff come up and then the next time I see them all is well. But my question is, why don't I get the same in return?

I fuck up 1 time, 1 time...and I don't ever get second chances from clients. It's time to start fighting back a bit.

It's not a fight. The ball is in their court so to speak. As the customer, if they choose not to come back tat is tat. It's not like they are some big group conspiring against you. This guy had not cancelled. You messed up. For goodness sake respect his (very reasonable) decision.

What utter rubbish. You can't complain if you let people push your boundaries and let people that have cancelled book again. The client has every right not to want to see you, same right that you have to cancel or not take bookings off people that have previously cancelled.

Plus this client hasn't done anything wrong, in fact he's been more than generous letting you keep the deposit.

Ridiculous.

Hi Blaine.
800 miles? Frak!  :o What about flying to the places that distant?

After you leave this and go back to college, then a new career,
what general field do you think you'll go into?
Do you think all these challenges you've recently faced escorting wise
will make you a stronger person in your next career?
If the answers yes, then maybe there is a long term benefit to you
from all of these incidents.
Which would be nice.
Anyway it's only a matter of a few more weeks,
then you can turn your back on all of these troublesome clients.

A. You generally only get one chance with a new client.
If there is a frak-up of any sort, which is at the escorts end,
Mr client will simply go spend his Coin with another Whore.

All he wants to do is spend Coin to get his willy sucked.
He won't see any issue (legit or otherwise) much beyond that.
