Has anyone had a client send them a deposit for a travel booking and you were unable to make it the day of the appointment? Worst. Feeling. Ever. I'm risking a bad review, I have to find a way to get the money back to him.
Ugh, I'm hysterical right now. Let me elaborate. It was for a 2 hour booking and this city I was going to is some 800 miles away, driving (USA distance). I freaked out at the last minute because a few other emails were not responding/confirming. I would have only had 1 client confirming, and 2 inquries who have been communicating. I had about 3 others who did not respond when I mentioned my coming into town.
I freaked out and started worrying last minute, my bags and all packed up. I was afraid if I drove out for only 2 or 3 clients, by the time I paid for gas/hotel I'd break horribly even possibly spending more than I made. And last August I was going to make this trip, when all the clients who booked cancelled! I was already over 400 miles out at that time.
I explained to the client about it, but he's very upset saying why did I ask for a deposit and "oh well, guess I just live and learn" I feel absolutely petrified right now. But at the same time, last month I drove over 500 miles for 1 regular client of mine and 1 client cancelled, I ended up getting home with $-100 in my bank account because it was close to rent time and I'd used my card for gas.
So hope you can understand why I had the gut feeling to cancel, I did offer to reschedule and even announced it on my ads...but don't think the client will want to deal with me again.
