I'm a newbie really to sex work and escorting and wish I could of done it years ago, But wanted to get input from ladies who have been in the industry long enough to witness and experience the ups and downs from world events and financial falls  From the nineties to now ( or earlier).Could today in our current situation with a threat of a virus and lockdowns be in the history of sex work the worst or just something to ride the wave of and really not as bad as past dips in demand for escorts? I know we can't predict the outcome over the next month or six months but this current pandemic seems so limiting far beyond financial reasons for all. It's sometimes good to be told of times before when it was hard nutcase back still, That is for morale.

[redacted, split from Slow thread]
I'm a baby to escorting really but be great to hear f ladies that have known the ups and downs and weathered the financial storms over the years of escorting and witnessed a bounce back, Would give us newbies hope :)  Or could this be the worst yet?

It's difficult to give hope when we are in a situation we have never faced before but surely ,as with everything, it will end at some point and as we all know, this profession has been around a very long time so it's a matter of hanging in there but I realise that's harder for some than for others.

Exactly. Nobody here is going to be old enough to remember previous pandemics (and we really don't need another coronavirus thread), but given that prostitution has continued in every area of the world throughout history should be enough to demonstrate that it isn't going anywhere. Even sticking just to the UK, I doubt that working through the bubonic plague, Spanish flu and two World Wars in the last few hundred years alone was exactly a walk in the park and we didn't have the internet, proper healthcare or a welfare system then.

I started in 2002 so I can only speak from then on, but bar the odd blip it's all been pretty steady away although I've changed the way I work several times when I realised that the way I was doing things was no longer the best way for me. Even when I've thought it was a crap year, when I look back through tax returns there's relatively little variation (which proves nothing other than that however much business there is, I can only work so much).

I started just over six years ago and was pretty steady. It's a cliched word, but COVID-19 really is unprecedented, and I think it's going to have a big impact on every aspect of our lives for at least another 6 months.

I've been working off and on since I was 18, but full time for eleven odd years. I don't know much but I do know how to adapt as with any job. You see what people want, what they're asking for a lot and you cater to that, if you can and if you want to.

Not sure if. 2020.is the worst but it's challenging.

I've been working from the mid 90's and money was always excellent, was working in the US during the 2007 financial crash and I found that took a huge toll on the industry (and to many industries). I saw many sex workers retire during the 2007 crash. After the crisis things started to get better again, however... they never really returned fully to "pre- financial crisis times". Another huge hit the sex industry took was the disspearance of backpage, it was not that bad in the UK but it was a disaster in the US.The third MAJOR hit was covid, I've never for the life of god seen anything like this EVER.

Because Brexit WILL affect the economy and the economy affects sex work.

Yeah. It's a bit like asking how driving the country a bus over a cliff will affect the passengers.
