The Implant.. Heaven or Hell?
« on: 28 September 2011, 03:26:18 pm »
Well it's been about two months since i got my implant put in and i have noticed some interesting changes, some good... some not so good. It varies from day to day.

Heaven: No period, no mess, no pills or regular injections or major surgery. No unwanted pregnancy ect ect

Hell: more prone to anger/axiety, lower sex drive, eat less, itchyness (i double checkd this, it is a symptom)..plus a few other things.

What i wanna know is, do any of you have the Implant? whats ur heaven and hell? does it affect your job?
If you dont have it... what do you use?

Hi Babe,
I dont have the implant but i am considering the mirena coil it as a hormone that last for five years the only thing that is putting  me off is the fitting had a coil fitted many years ago and the bloody pain.
Has anyone else had the mirena fitted and whats the pros and cons.

It's really dependent on just how your body reacts to it. I personally love having the implant and would never ever go back now I've had it.

But then I know people who've had hell on it - constant periods (honestly never ending!), severe mood swings, lack of sex drive.

I've been very lucky with mine, occasional mood swing but nothing compared to when I was on the pill, and I love not having to deal with periods at all. However, when ever anyone says to me "oh would you recommend it" I always give the disclaimer that you don't know until you have it how your body is going to react.

Hmmmmmm   contraceptive happiness ;) is  a very personal thing me thinks. But here's my experience as you asked:
.

I was on the pill which drove me nuts. Plus I ended up pregant whilst taking it! I then had the implant fitted but for me, I  ended up with  really heavy periods/ bleeding.

So, I now have the mirena coil fitted.  I get the usual  crappy pmt  symptoms but then   very light and sometimes no periods! The pros of this are once fitted it  is there for 5 years if you are happy with it.

Regarding getting it fitted, I had it fitted under anaesthetic . I mean, full go to sleep anaesthetic lol. This, from  the woman who has given birth twice naturally he he.

You can request them to give you a milder version where they will give you a sedative thing and you will  be awake for the procedure so it will be more uncomfortable than painful. :)

At the end of the day the best thing is to try one and see how you tolerate it  and if you don't like it keep trying until you find something you are happy with! Oh the joys of being female ::)

I had the implant for 7 weeks and i went crazy. The mood swings were unbearable, got very upset easily,no sex drive constanly on edge.I also hated the fact i could feel it in my arm so had it taken out after 7 weeks.I was on the Depo for 8 years and was fine but wanted to be free of anything so did that for 1 year and got fed up of PMT so had the Implant, which was a nightmare.
Now i have to decide what to go on next!

i conocur, im experiencing some serious mood swings. Now im normally a very laid back and calm person... but the implant is seriously driving me nuts, i wake up shitty and trust me everyone for the rest of the day is gonna know about it. I'm blessed with no periods, but im kinda wishing i had them..more so because its a natural thing.. your body flushing out the past month or so.. i miss the reliefe that brings. just seems right now nothing seems to help me relax.. bugging!

God Bless The Menopause  ::) ;D
Beauty is nothing to do with having a pretty face.
It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart,
And most importantly a beautiful soul.

I would not wish for an early menopause as that will result in being  put on  HRT replacement.
If you are really unhappy with the implant, then I would suggest going to your doctor and  discussing it.

There are still other options that you can try! Good luck

Hettie, there are some threads on here regarding  your period query.  Try and type ' period 'sponges' and so on into the search box!

I have been on the implant since June and had 1 period so am a very satisfied customer haha. My sex drive has decreased tho but no mood swings or weight problems.
I am a little on edge wondering when I am going to get my period tho, and if I will at all.
xx

I had no periods for about a year but then as the implant hormone levels started decreasing, I started getting irregular periods and sometimes I would get them twice a month! So I had it taken out after two years, now I'm on the pill again with no problems.

I had the Implanon Implant 15 months ago and so far so good. The implant does itch occasionally, but if I don't scratch it stops. My periods more or less disappeared, or at least became irregular (which is quite normal for me anyway). I did experience a phase of constant spotting for approximately 3 weeks, and had myself convinced there was something terribly wrong, but it stopped and didn't interfere with my usual activities.

Apart from that not noticed anything else however I do follow a fairly controlled, very balanced exercise programme and watch my diet which my hormones generally don't influence. So any change in weight is because I'm purposely eating more or less (if that makes sense!).
