Hi everybody
if u decide to go touring for one year how do u justify all the money spent in hotels for such a long period? How do u save on taxes?

Just put them down as expenses.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

Do you put accommodation through now?  If they think it suspicious they may ask the question first of why you are putting 'rent' through.  You could say you're teaching in different areas etc.  However, if you ever got audited you would no doubt have to fess up to what you really do anyway.  And if all you expenses are kosher and to do with work then it's ok.

As I am also in the accountancy industry, I can say that however you describe yourself is of no consequence. Yes if HMRC were to ask questions then you would be best advised to say how you make a living. Its not illegal! And they have seen it all before. Usually, HMRC are grateful that a WG is actually declaring their income and paying taxes. Some, as we all know, do not, especially if they are on benefits too. If they get caught, its a double very painful whammy!

Yes, without wanting to have a lot of duplicate posts from the existing thread about this, provided your expenses are incurred for work and work only then put them through - it doesn't matter what they are and if you're investigated the auditors will almost certainly know what your job is already.

You can easily change your occupation with the HMRC though, if you want to (I did mine a few years ago when I was renting a flat and had to show the last return to a letting agent) :)

You'll already have declared the money as it's part of your income. You don't pay tax on ISA interest, no :)

I think a better option would be ‘alternative therapist’, which is what I use.
