Tax returns and occupation (plus general discussion)
« on: 07 September 2016, 11:38:32 pm »
Says it all in the subject line really. I have an accountant and he knows I'm an escort but he's put entertainer on my file to keep, as he puts it, things simple. He's a very nice guy and very non-judgemental but what difference does a job title make?  ???

I also do my own accounts/taxes and tax returns, and am registered as the *other* thing I am self-employed at (and yes, it covers the expenses I submit for prossying/camming etc).

I'm an alternative therapist. Unlike Cat, I have two registered businesses as the expenses for my other work are a bit different!

"entertainer" aswell. One client who's an accountant suggested "model". If escorting isn't illegal then why shouldn't we put "escort"?

Escort. Might even have 'independent' next to it.

I read the OPs post as being specifically to do with whether other people's accountants put something other than sex worker (or 'escort' or whatever) on their forms? We surely don't need another 'what do you put down as your occupation?' thread unless we're trying to get them into double figures?

When I had an accountant, he put 'therapist' on mine - it's a catch all term that doesn't mean anything so suitable enough for the purpose and I assumed it was because he didn't want other accountants at his firm knowing he had a lot of prossies on his books for whatever reason. When I started doing my own, I changed it to sex worker :).

Yes, exactly. Those are my thoughts as well. Maybe it's because of the complicated law that surrounds this job. Street soliciting for example.

Yep. That is exactly what I am asking  :)

The tax man isn't interested on the legalities of what you do for work they just want your tax money.

I put therapist just in case I am ever going for a mortgage as you don't know what their attitude will be.

As clarified above, the OP's question is 'does/did your accountant put something other than sex worker on your tax forms?'

I know but that could be a reason why some accountants are wary about putting anything to do with sex work down.

I don't think accountants are asked who their clients are if they apply for a mortgage, but it's by the by. We don't need another identical thread about HMRC and pick-an-occupation :).
