Incall Apartment and Tax (Bleurgh)
« on: 12 July 2010, 04:58:33 pm »
Hey everyone!

I'm currently in the middle of going legit, and had a couple of questions. I looked at the tax relief for escorts website but still had a couple of questions.

1. If I declare my incall apartment as my business address would this cause me any problems with my letting agents (as the flat is supposed to be used as a private residence only) or any other legal agencies?

2. If I put myself down as a model/alternative therapist can I still claim on condoms and toys?

Thanks

If you are a sole trader then your apartment is your trading address. I would not have thought this a wise thing to share with your letting agent, but I can't imagine the Inland Revenue would..there are a couple of clauses about not running a business  from a rental property I believe. A girl who posts on here, Sammy, could probably tell you more about how that works.

If you plan on claiming for condoms, put escort. If you plan on claiming for creams, put whatever you want.

You can call yourself anything you wish provided it's reasonably close to your occupation.

I am a "Corporate Therapist".  ;D

"In the business section you need to give the date your business started and the nature of your self- employed work. There is no need to put prostitute: my advice is to put something you feel comfortable with that broadly describes what you do. Acceptable descriptions might be 'Escort', 'Fitness Consultant', 'Alternative Therapist', 'Hospitality Consultant', 'Executive Stress Counsellor' or any permutation. But don't try to be too clever by putting something that you're clearly not qualified to do or which has a completely different pattern of expenses to what you actually do. Putting astronaut or chip shop owner is asking for trouble."

Hi
I can see no problem with using your rented address as your business address.
As lucy said you shouldn't ever tell your letting agent that you are doing this.
There is no reason why the agent or landlord would ever find out as the inland revenue would never contact them ever.
Just make sure when you move out that you get all of your tax post etc redirected to your new place asap.

If you put something really general such as therapist as your occupation then you can probably get away with claiming for condoms etc as you haven't been specific about what type of therapist you are. I wouldn't go mad and start claiming for things like sex toys though

Thank You all for your replies, they have been very helpful! I'm glad that I can declare the rental flat, because it means I can probably make it a tax deductible cost which is good :) I think I will declare that I am a therapist, as I hear that claiming for things such as lingerie and clothing can be a bit sticky anyway (and to be honest, I would probably buy the majority of it anyway!)

Thanks Again :)

Hi

The popular business descriptions for my escort clients are "Therapist" and "Model". The girls also involved  with video and pictures go down the "model" route whilst the rest tend to go with "therapist".

I think the therapist description is great because it is so general and can easily cover the activities of an escort.

You are right in saying that clothing is a grey area whilst I see no problem with condoms and other consumables.
