Taking lube through airport security
« on: 27 December 2016, 03:54:53 pm »
Has anyone else had lube seized, even though it's in a container no larger than 100ml?

On the one hand, the rules ban all 'acids and alkalis'. On the other hand, if you want to get picky, that's everything except distilled water and not much else.

Why yes, it has just happened...

No, but I don't think I've taken lube through as hand luggage. Which airport was this?

Most cosmetics are something other than a 7 on the ph scale. I'd expect lube to be as close to neutral as possible. Because, ouch!

How was it packaged?

Can I ask (possible can of worms here) are you non-caucasian?

I recently went through several airports with shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, sun tan lotion, mosquito spray and all my makeup as hand luggage (all in travel size) and wasn't questioned about it at all. Pretty sure any of that squirted into someone's eyes would be more dangerous than lube  >:(

No, I have white privilege.

I am wondering if the person concerned had ever seen any - we did have to explain what it was!

Yep.

The funny thing is that after security at most airports including this one, you are then forced to go through the perfume section with so much pong in the air that it makes my eyes water.

I think sometimes you just get some funny buggers who work at airports wanting to exercise their 'authority' to seize whatever they feel like at the time. I've had a few shitty encounters at some,  been treated like some sort of criminal just for going on holiday maybe they're having a bad day or just miserable cunts in general lol

I hate the perfume sections in airports its ridiculous why anyone would want to buy masses of the stuff just because they're going on a flight (and most of its not even cheaper!)

Every 100 ml recipient has to be put in zipped plastic bags, maybe that was the reason he seized it?
I almost lost my flight once for not having my make up in  plastic bag, I had to go back all the way downstairs to buy a &1 one from a machine  :FF

Hooray, someone else! I am almost tempted to post a photo so we can see if it's the same person, but taking one is very naughty, so I obviously didn't.

It was Pjur, in its original packaging, in the usual 'here's my liquids' zip lock bag...

There's something about Luton. I've been through there several times and found the staff there to be officious, difficult and unreasonable at some point almost every time. (without even mentioning the parking and dropoff/pickup arrangements). I do everything I can to avoid the place now, it's the most unpleasant airport I've ever been to.

Same here, there is something about Luton airport security staff.  They chose to take my 100ml sealed tooth paste (which I just bought) because the transparent bag would not close in it's entirety.  Imagine if I was to have 'naughty' items with me!  They behave as if they hate other human beings.  Once they removed my sandals (as I could not bend down to remove them due to a back problem) yet they all disappeared when I asked them to secure them back for me.  They clearly do not want to help you with anything.
