Starting a family and working...
« on: 16 December 2013, 01:55:19 pm »
Been thinking a lot of the possibilities of working while having a child. I don't know how many of you are mums etc, obviously as a mum we wouldn't get the amount of money we do now compared to what the government hand out, curious to know how people deal with the financial break etc? Not pregnant, just curious for the future :)

I cannot answer this question as I don't have any children yet and when I do it will be when I am done with the business for good but for those such as yourself who are happy to work on after you've had a little one, you don't need a financial break as there is other things you can do.

I personally would never offer escort services while pregnant for a number of reasons I wont go into as there are plenty of ladies who do and no disrespect to them but you could always offer massage services with a happy ending perhaps? You could do this until you really start to show and get tired easily so that the financial break is only a few months rather than a year.

I think the best thing to do though would be to save as much as you possibly can before having a baby so you don't feel the strain too bad.

I don't understand the highlighted bit?  You are asking about working with a child but saying we wouldn't get the amount we do now off the government.  If you are doing this work you wont need to be on benefits regardless of if you have a child or not so its not relevant.

If you mean whilst on maternity leave then I am afraid you would have to save up for it as being self employed we don't get a lot of help but you can claim maternity allowance for 39 weeks which is not much over ?120 a week as being self employed you are not entitled to statutory maternity pay which is for those who work for a company.

Truth is far more important than what one wants to hear. With truth there is no us and them or colour or religion there is just fact

I am a single mother and I hope no one else experiences what I have.
I gave up escorting and never said never but I didn't want to go back to it.
I wish I had saved a lot or found myself a career but the pregnancy was unplanned.
I love my child more than anything but I am restricted to working and when I do earn good money I'm restricted to what I can do. It's not fair to take a baby on holidays and trips.
I have wasted a lot of money and I am now beginning to save for our future.

When the time is right I will give up escorting and meet a nice man and settle down again and not return to escorting but right now I just want to work.

What I mean is that I wouldnt be able to work for the first 6 months of having a child, plus the months I would have off during the birth, I personally wouldnt want me and a child to have to live off just government maternity and housing benefit, child maintenance etc. I wouldn't want to scrimp and srape for me and a child. What I was really getting at was how much a WG mum generally saved so she was comfortable enough during the break. also as a mum i wouldnt be able to earn the money I do now, now if I need x amount of money I go out and work regardless of what day it is etc, I cant do that with a child in tow.

Thank you! this is what I was looking for! I had an unplanned pregnancy earlier in the year and due to different reasons went through a termination, but it's something I very much regret and my thoughts keep going back to children. Because of child care etc do you find it harder to make the same amount of money you used to, e.g. restrictions on working etc?

I didn't really have a plan and I had little savings but was supported by my partner when I had our children. However working after children is a bit of a problem. I have to find childcare so I have to stick to regular days/hours to work. I can't work evenings often as most childcare finishes around 6 or 7pm. You can get a babysitter for the evenings though of course.

Saying that though it is easier to do this job than most other jobs as a mother. Finding work which pays well enough to cover childcare, fits in with childcare hours and allows you to easily take time off for school holidays/sickness/school plays & sports days is not easy at all and yet we can choose our hours to suit our needs.
