Site unavailable in certain countries?
« on: 29 March 2010, 12:59:30 am »
Hello Ladies,
I'm hoping you can help me out.

I''ve been trying to submit a listing  on some of the U.K sites in the past few weeks and a couple of them have told me that they could not access my site and that it must be down.  It isn't down because I can get to it and so can everyone else I've asked.  (I live in North America)  I"ve submitted to other U.K sites prior to that and there was no problem.

Has this ever come up for you, ie. certain countries/regions not being able to access your site reliably?

It happened to me once with SAAFE.  I read the forum for a while and then one day I couldn't access it from my home computer.

I don't want to post my URL for all to see  but it any of you who live in the U.K can check to see if you can access my site I would very much appreciate it.  Please PM me and I will send you the link.

Thank you,

Lissa

Hi Lissa, sorry I didn't reply to your PM sooner. I can't access your site either. My ISP is Virgin Media, which is one of the biggest in the country. Maybe ask the people who couldn't get to it if they're with them too.

I don't know what you could do about it if that was the case, though :(.

Tried seeing what the IP address is and what a tracert says? It would be interesting to know if there is anything else is at that IP which may be causing people to block it.

Oh yeah, that's why I hadn't replied, I knew I could look into it further and was going to find someone to ask about it. The traceroute doesn't get any further than rx0sh-scratch-telecom.mt.bigpipeinc.com, but I have no idea what to do with this information. Help?

It is possible that they block tracert from that point, but it tells us that the issue isn't at Virgin Media - that's a Canadian ISP.

I can see it from here (ex-Tiscali, now unwillingly with Carphone Warehouse).

My tracert goes through the bigpipeinc.com's owners (shawcable) and ends up at hostpapa.com.

Hmm. Unreliable router somewhere at Shaw or a problem with the hosting? How long has this been going on?

Ok, you guys are way too techy for me!

Tracert? Huh?

yes, hostpapa is the hosting company.

So anika can't see it, cassie can, how about xW5?  was that a yes?

It's been going on for about 2 weeks. I heard from a U.K client that he tried to view my website and couldn't but that he was able to view it at a later time.  Then 2 sites I"ve tried to list on couldn't access it.  Everytime I've checked from here it has been working.

So what do I do?

Nice shoes!

Thanks  :) - Don't get me started on shoes - they are one of my passions.

But back to topic, I haven't got a clue what Anika and XW5 are talking about, but my ISP is Sky if that is of any use.

Not sure if it is , Cassie.  Hopefully someone else can tell us.   The guy who can't access it is on BT- something, I forget.
