Should I register as self employed and pay taxes
« on: 31 January 2020, 05:15:59 pm »
Hello ladies. Can anyone give me some advice regarding registration as self-employed and what are the pros and cons when you are registered and pay taxes please? Is it worth to register and pay taxes if you do it only part time?  Thank you in advance

I know it's good to pay taxes on every money you've earned but I am doing this only part time and see maybe 2 or 3 clients a week. To be fair I did even know that SW should pay taxes but noticed that many ladies here are taking about that and was wondering do I have to

Do you have to pay tax on income ? Yes.
If you’re not earning over the income allowance you won’t have to pay anything anyway. But you should still register for your own peace of mind and to avoid being one of the shit heads who think they don’t have to pay tax while the rest of us do

It's an obligation not a choice.

Summer, you're asking the question as if it's optional? It's not - tax evasion is illegal and even leaving aside that expecting everybody else to pay your share (including those on minimum wage who have theirs deducted before they ever see their money) is thoroughly obnoxious, do you realise that when you're caught with no records or proof of income HMRC will just estimate what they think you've earned and tax you on that? And they don't know we don't all work forty hours a week.

Do you have to pay tax on income ? Yes.

Exactly. You pay a percentage based on what you earn above the threshold (which I think this year is about £12K?) and so does everybody else. You'll also pay your National Insurance - not doing this especially and expecting somebody else to pay for you is a really shitty way to behave.

No it's not, HMRC makes clear on their website that if you make less than X amount pounds a year from a self employed business you don;t have to declare taxes. I can't remember what amount it was but maybe 2 or 3 thousand per year (?). Please somene correct me. I know this because I just filed my self employed taxes two weeks ago and I remember this well. In my case I make over that amount so had to pay my taxes, but if you made a small amount you may not need to declare taxes.

Yes it's true, but it's also not helpful to start getting into incredibly niche situations that are unlikely to apply to anybody here. The OP has already said she sees two or three punters a week, so unless she's charging them twenty quid each it isn't going to apply to her either.

Yes, if she's seeing 2 or 3 punters a week she will have to pay taxes (unless like you say she;s charging 20 quid which I doubt).

You could get reported*; undergo HMRC investigations, and pay a penalty that will financially ruin you. People get tried at court/jail time over tax evasion in the UK. Declare your taxes and sleep peacefully at night.

*know a few clients and girls who got reported. These things happen

Well is anybody employing you? if not, then you have to.
everybody who earns a wage and earns over a certain amount pays tax.
And the HMRC people WILL find you soon enough!

not worth going to prison over this.
as for two or three clients a week - well, how much is it?
is it 2 or 3 clients at £100 a time? if so, then this is a lot during the year.

Also, I don't understand why you would think that SW would be exempt  from paying taxes, or N.I for that matter? You are running a small business and it is not illegal. Frankly though, you can tell HMRC any job title you want, they don't care. They will care though if some arsehole grasses you up to them and you've been earning money every week you haven't told them about. You also may not qualify for your pension or benefits in the future if you don't pay your N.I.

given the current and future political climate of this country and all of europe for that matter, we dont even know if the tax payers of today will receive a pension in the future. I pay my taxes but i dont believe in pensions and a year ago i started paying into a private pension fund for my future.
