Scabies
« on: 28 June 2013, 10:32:24 am »
I have been having what I thought a skin allergy already for two weeks. I am scratching, irritated skin, bumps all over and so on. Really bad and I could not figure out what it was. First I thought it was food allergy and convinced it was this protein diet that I am following and that I probably getting a reaction of to much milk protein or so. So I cut down all milk products and it didn't improve much. Then I thought it was fish, cut down fish nothing. Until yesterday a friend comment me that my symptoms look like having scabies. Now I never in my life did hear of anybody around me getting scabies, only animals, so I was shocked and went on internet and read. And after reading all that I think I do have scabies. It seems like in UK lots of people get this as it is like epidemic there and many other countries in Europe get infested by people from UK that bring it over. I am convinced that it is a client that give me this and I am horrified. So did some girl on here ever got scabies? And how do you deal with it?
I am off to the pharmacy now and cannot wait to put some medicine to kill these damn scabies that are driving me insane already for two weeks. I am horrified  :-[

Jessie, it could be bed-bugs too. I've had them and its awful. They itch like hell and you get big red bumps in your skin that you want to scratch all day. Go and see your GP asap and she'll tell you what it is.

But bed bugs where? I suppose if it was bed bugs it has to go away when I change place. I have been moving around. But still my skin is crawling up badly.
I am in a country at the moment that I don't trust the GP here ass they are like butchers. So I do not want to go to a GP here as one time already they prescribe me wrong medicine.
I will just popped into a pharmacy and look.

Bed bugs travel on people. If you stay in a grotty hotel for example you can bring bed bugs home to your own bedroom.

They feed on blood and if you have them in the house you need pest controllers to treat the place. But you need to find out if you have them first perhaps someone who has experienced them could tell you more here is a picture of bites http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bedbugb2.JPG

Something you can do to reduce the possibility is keep the bed well aired as they live in the warm humid environment of the bed, pulling back the covers in the morning and opening your windows causes the temperature and humidity to drop and makes a poor environment for them to survive. But if you already have them they will need destroying.

As Ana says, it's best to go to your GP to get it checked out asap, as if it is scabies you'll be spreading it around too.    I had scabies in high school and they were a nightmare, and by the time my mum had got me to the dr's I'd already passed it on to my best friend.  The pair of us had to have a week off whilst we were on meds and doused in Calamine lotion not to mention all the bedding and clothes that my mum had to boil.  It was rather funny, two naked teenagers in my mums front room covered in pink lotion waiting for it to dry. :D :D

Bed bugs are a nightmare. Once they "make their appearance"  you need to throw away your bed, your sheets, your rugs, pillows etc... Plus wash your clothes in very hot water. Once your bedroom (and adjacent rooms) are empty you need to fog them or call a professional service and have them do it for you. London is a city with a huge bedbug problem so it's very common to get them in hotels, hostels etc.. but my bedbug problem happened in a big city in the US.I'm a very clean person but my neighbours were incredibly filthy so my apartment got infected. What I would do (every time a had a "bed bug attack") was  move to my boyfriends house for a week (while my apartment was being fogged) and wash with very hot water the clothes I was wearing. After a couple of days (living in a bed-bug free zone) my red marks and my itching would dissapear.

To the OP: If you move someplace else and the itching/red marks don't go away them its definately NOT bedbugs but something else (an allergy, scabies etc..)

Take off all the bedding and check everywhere - the matress/around the bedposts and see if you can see any signs of bedbugs, see if there are any small blood specks on the bedding/mattress, thats a sure sign of bedbugs.  Some people react badly to bedbugs, some not at all.

I have been assured by doctors that bedbugs are lazy and contrary to rumour usually do not travel with you, unless the infestation is very bad.

It may also be flea bites especially if you have animals.  Flea bites are horribly itchy.

Scabies are quite easy to treat with the same lotion used for head lice.  I caught them last year not form the job but from a local street drunk who was brought to my work flat by someone else. So  Yeah I had them all over my hands.  You need a few big bottles of the lotion and cover yourself head to foot not missing a single inch of flesh and head.  Then you need to boil anything fabric you have used wash cloths towels bedding etc and hoover all furniture to remove them from that.  You need to do this with the boiling and hovering everyday and then one week later go again with the lotion and boiling of everything and you will then be clear.
Be warned though the lotion does sting your genitals and anal area but you need to leave it on overnight even if it stings
Truth is far more important than what one wants to hear. With truth there is no us and them or colour or religion there is just fact

Thanks so much for the many good advice girls.
What I have looks like a combination of bed bugs and scabies. I am not sure which one or is it both.
I am horrified. I went to the pharmacy and they give me two bottles of scabies lotion. I have to use one bottle the first day and second day the other. I have to leave it in minimum for 8 hours. The pharmacist told me that the scabies lotion will work for bedbugs as well. I checked my mattress an I do not see any sign of bedbugs. I will have to clean and wash everything though in very hot water.
This is my working apartment and if its bed bugs no way I can get a new mattress. So I don't know what I would have to do then. But I still think it is scabies and probably from some client.
I am going to use this scabies lotion today and tomorrow and will see if it goes away. Lets hope.

I had 4 bites from what I presumes to be fleas or bed bugs and like all you girls I am clean and house proud. However they were so itchy and stayed for weeks and I still have the faint scars now. I bought a flea spray and spring cleaned the room to this day I don't know what it was but a sort of bite. I do have cats so could have been fleas. Scabies are mites and may be different.

If the cats are jumping around the furniture you can bet your bottom dollar that you have fleas in your carpets and that's why they wont walk on them.
Beauty is nothing to do with having a pretty face.
It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart,
And most importantly a beautiful soul.
