Savings - how much?
« on: 02 March 2019, 11:57:56 pm »
Hi!
As all we know we earn money by our bodies. Stomach bag topic inspired me to think about making some savings. We never know if we'll be healthy.
Escorting is my full time job so I want to collect savings to feel secure. How do you think how much should I collect to be safe and manage if something will happen?

I'm living in South Wales.

Tbh after a few years working full time I've only just started saving but now I try to put away as much as I can every week. I don't have a set amount as we all know how up and down each week can be! But whenever I have a good day I just put a large chunk of it (Say 70% of my earnings away). I have now got 3 months rent payments saved in advance just in case  :).

But each week is different from the next so I'd say just try to save as much as you can! it also helps if you have any specific goals to save towards (e.g. I'm now saving for a flat deposit) as I think that's why I didn't save very much to begin with  ::) ;D

Good luck with it all!! :-* xxx

I have enough to live on for about 9 months. My goal is to keep saving as much as I can so I can pay my mortgage off as quickly as possible and retire early

The old rule of thumb was 3 months living costs.

Yep, work out your monthly outgoings and try to have 3–6 months' worth in the bank.

I have saved every week/month since I started escorting. If I had a week where I couldn't put something into the savings pot I would be very depressed.  Mortgage paid off now so much easier to save if even a little each time.

I have no savings or pension I'm in debt so manage monthly with civvy job and part time escorting.
I'm crap with money unfortunately.
If I get critically ill my insurance pays mortgage I'd have to ask for my brother to help me.

I try to save as much as possible but without going overboard. I treat myself to things once a week or so like new candles, meals out, new clothes shoes, but I never have expensive taste so nothing is designer!

Everything else I save  :)

However, I am splashing out on home improvements for my incall place this year as they need doing. Ever since buying it I haven't really done anything to it.

I am mortgage free and I do have another business to generate income, so I guess I can live comfortably on not very much  :)

I would prefer to have a £2k to £3k float and to keep it that way.

I have cashed in a very small private pension and apart from essentials that are needed and especially paying for half a deposit and half a rent for a flat share soon I intend to keep a float from now on in.

Moving to a flat share will also help my income as I will be working in a much more prosperous location although I still intend to live carefully as to be honest I have come to prefer it that way and to keep my expenses to an absolute minimum.

Have 30% deposit saved for a future mortgage, Will try and add more to that in the next 24 month's. Try and have at least 1k I can dip in and out of if it's been a dead month, it's hard though. It would be a different story if I had dependents and multiple properties/bills. I find forums on saving/finances useful to look at. Also forgot about having tax bill saved and ready so I'm not panicking about pulling the money out my arse

Thank you all for answering!
Savings in this business are definitely necessary. After paying off my debts (abt 2000q) I'll start saving. I think money for 6 months will be anough.

Having escorted years ago, I never saved any of that money and I had no dependants at that time either I wish I’d made a better go of it.
Now, my life is different and I started escorting specifically to save money, so I put away every single penny I’ve made in the last 6 months since starting up again. I only work 2 days a week, day time hours & a week off when I get my period, but I’ve managed to save £10k so far. I usually manage between £1k & £2k each month. £2k is my monthly target, and I’m usually not far from it but I’m happy as long as I can make a grand.
I want a deposit for a house & to be able to go on holiday once a year, I’m good with money and I feel so much more relaxed knowing I have a decent amount in my savings now.
We get paid very well, I can’t imagine just relying on a “regular” job now!

Of course. What I mean is, I don’t spend any money I earn on bills, treats, etc.
