Want to move to London, where do my plans begin?
« on: 29 June 2010, 03:22:52 pm »
Hello to all the Saafe ladies, I've been an avid follower since I became a WG late last year. A huge percentage of my knowledge of the working world and also my superstitions about potential time-wasters have been created by what I've read on here and I wanted to say thankyou. I've never really posted anything as my continuity in correspondence is abit crappy and everyone seems so self-assured I'm a coward to admit I was quite intimidated.

My family are acutely aware of what I do but aren't too pleased about it, it's creating tension because I can't quite find it in me to lie 100% of the time and it's the age-old issue of someone who doesn't wish to be lied to yet is silently aware that they would also not appreciate the truth- warts and all- no pun intended. I'm intent on carrying on as a WG and am currently looking into learning restoration techniques for furniture etc. I need to get away from my family and live on my own, how shall i go about it? My mind immediately jumped to London because of potentially higher income and making my facade seem more plausible; I'm under the notion that more students flock to London than else where..... wishful thinking?

I've never rented on my own, payed tax before nor declared my earnings. My problem is that I'm sure i need to earn a good amount before planning to mooch into London and become a free-spirit, truly my own boss without the stresses of my parents lamenting that i could be doing better. So earning this 'float' at a rapid pace may be the cause of a few upsets before being able to run halfway across the country or i could be patient and remain as i am now, an undetected worker- fitting in being a WG with working in an office, living between two homes and caring for a sick parent who; having found out my new choice of 'career' as they put it- regularly informs me that I am the one who is sick.

Hiya Faye!

Nice to meet you, congratulations on having the bottle to tell your family..I take my hat off to you!! x
I've only recently started working on the scene so not realy qualified to advise on that side of things (except for the agency Im working for which so far seems great) but, what I do know about is moving to London on a shoestring  ;)
I moved down to London as a pennyless 16 year old. Lucklily I was moving into a friends which made it easier but I was broke and couldn't stay there on the sofa for long so I did some serious missioning to find a new place!
If you you want your own place (budget around ?750pcm+ plus deposit to move in)for a decent studio in an ok area in zone 2, more for central zone 1) or  would you consider a houseshare? This can be as little as ?300 pcm and is a good way to make new friends. However unless your with fellow WG's it could be tricky to bring clients back, but you could be an outcall-only excort iniatially. In fact, with my agency you do your shifts from a central London hotel so this wouldn't be a problem. Alternatively, you coud commute into London 2 days a week to do your shifts. This would boost your income and help you decide if you like working in the area.

The TNT magazine (google) is a terriffic source of info for newbies in London. It covers affordable accommadation, things to do in London, social events and even escort jobs. Its available for free all over London (pubs, tube stations etc) or you can check out the website.

Gumtree is a brill website and is easily the best for both private lets and houseshares, jobs, classifieds. Its free to advertise and you can even place an "accommadation wanted" ad to be specific about the accommadation you want.

I hope this helps! If you'd like advice on specific areas  of London or anything else,  PM and I'll do what I can to help.

Good Luck and keep us posted! ;D

Afternoon Melody and thanks for the advice! Don't think of me as brave for 'telling my parents' because I didn't fully explain that it was a scorned and raging ex who dropped the dirt on me but my parents agreeableness and the fact that they didn't wish to throw their tainted daughter onto the streets showed him for trying to be a telltale and also me that i can trust them to understand so much more than i ever thought i could.

Houseshare might be the best first option for me I think? Then i can move on from there, another problem I'm encountering with my plan for moving away is; I have a on-off boyfriend whom cannot come to terms with me working (a main reason for me wanting to move) I'd like to have a plausible reason for spending either two days a week in London (as you've suggested) or moving down there altogether... I'm sure studying is the most obvious answer, what way would anyone reccommend approaching the web of lies i shall eventually create? I have no problem with the lying because i know why I'm doing it; I lie because close-ones cannot be happy knowing I'm a WG yet i cannot live an almost stress free and luxury filled life working legitimately... The sheer scale of the facade makes me very anxious!!

I'm going to take a look at the TNT magazine on line now, thanks for your advice. I'm feeling a mixture of anticipation, anxiety and excitement... Good luck to me!!

Hope you're having a good day,

Faye xx xx
