I have read somewhere that using photoshop or gimp or something like this that you can add a new layer to your image and change the opacity and save it and use it but if people download they will have a blurred un-useable photo because of the 2nd layer... Has anyone tried this?

This isn't true hon.
Whilst yes, when editing a photo there can be several layers, the photo is compressed to a JPEG when it is saved, so that cannot be undone.
If you WANTED to save a photo and to be able to go back to it later to see the different layers and edit them, you'd have to save it as a PSD.
So, don't worry about that, as only compressed files can be uploaded to AW.
