Prepaid Credit Cards
« on: 05 March 2011, 08:37:27 am »
Hello All

I have done a search on the forum and didnt come up with anything so I will ask

Which ones are good and how do you sign up anonymously ( without registering in your real name) but then you have to give your real name and addy to receive the card dont you?

Topping up - how does that work?

thanks in advance

Emma

Hi Emma!

Are you using the search form here? I popped "prepaid cards" into the box on that page and got the following threads: One, two, three, four - plus more, if you wanted to try the search yourself. It looks like they're all full of advice from ParisB, Bexy and others about how to get these types of cards and how to use them effectively. :)

with prepaid card you need to have an address that you can collect it from if not using your own address ie mums dads ect
basically they give you a reduced spending limit if they cant verify its you -  what this mean is you can only top it up and use it up to a certain amount around  1800 2000  after that you have to verify it  but this is not an issue if you dont top it up and just use it on line to secure hotel rooms ect

i have cards in several names  -  they dont do a credit check on you untill you want to verify the card  which i never have done
the name that is on the card is irelevant  if you only plan to use it for booking on line then paying with regular card /cash on arrival at hotel

(chance are if you book in on line with your real name miss xxx and pay using the  credit card in different name you might get an eagle eye staff take the card off you if they think its stolen - hope that makes sense ) but if your just using the card to secure the booking then it dont matter

with virgin and i think the mastercard you can buy a 360 paypoint voucher if you want to be a bit more undercover which you can get from any petrol station shop ect that takes paypoint you just ask for a 360 money voucher or something ( its dose tell you on the card that your applying for )
then you register on line and put the vocher number in on line to pay for it
also you can pay using credit on phone as well on some card i think that the 360moneycard

Emily
thanks for the links I have read through all 4 now and see some info related to prepaids.

Paris - wow! Girl you know all the tricks, thanks.  Just one thing though, dont hotels usually ask for your ID when you check in?????  So if it doesnt match with your prepaid credit card info - isnt that a problem?

In actual fact, I was thinking of future uses of a prepaid for when I do go independent - paying for advertising, etc - rather than the hotel thing but thats good too

Nope. I think this happened to me in the US, but never in Britain.

If you choose to pay by cash hotels often ask for ID.
I've been to a few hotels where they've asked for ID, but not many if you pay by CC.

Hey ladies,

Hope it's not a silly  question but are there any pre-paid credit cards that you don't have to pay for and which do you girls recommend.

Thanks

Guys go to co-op travel get a sterling cash credit card they run no checks on you and card is given to you immediately. You can only use the card if you add cash to it. I find it great.

"In actual fact, I was thinking of future uses of a prepaid for when I do go independent - paying for advertising, etc - rather than the hotel thing but that's good too"

I use 'prime' mastercard - cant remember how much I paid for it - not much though - just bought it over the counter in one of them offline shops - no ID/name/address required.  I use it to advertise on-line you can top it up at any shop that sells them (google nearest shop selling prime mastercards)

I struggled a little registering it on line but that's simply because I'm not good at all with computers otherwise very straightforward and easy to use - think I had to have it unlocked before using it.

Good luck.

I am confused here. With those cards you don't need a name but if you are ordering on line or AW credits do you just leave the name bit blank??
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.
