Prepaid cards
« on: 09 August 2020, 01:50:36 am »
Hello ladies,

Please can you suggest some prepaid cards that most hotels will take. I would like a card that I do not have to register/ show ID to get.

PS. I have searched on this forum but can't see a post for any recent cards as many have changed rules over time etc.

Thanks everyone xx

I think a lot of financial service companies have introduced more strict rules (such as requiring id to register and use) due to money laundering regulations.

Is there a specific reason you don't want to use a card in your own name, or show id? Personally if I didn't want a hotel transaction on my bank account, I'd pay cash and show my driving licence, but I appreciate its not that easy for everyone (especially if you're a non UK national)
And me, I am not a mess, I am a wilderness, yes

we’ve obviously got the added problem of places that don’t want to accept cash at the moment too. Which is complete bollocks in my opinion

Anyone knows where to buy prepaid credit cars in a store?

If not what’s the best/quickest website to get them?
Are they anonymous or have to registered  with your real name ?
Can they be used to book flights hotel? Pay bills etc ? Direct debits ?
Thanks

I’d be really interested in this too, I don’t like advertising with my name.

You can use a Post office travel card, although one might think it is only for foreign currency, actually you *can* load sterling on it but they do charge a little extra for it, if you go into a branch to get one, you need to being ID, but weirdly enough, they don't ask for this if you order it online (though you need to pay for it by a cc, not sure if that might be a problem)  I am going to order one and see if I can use an alias.

Also, it is chip and pin enabled so you can use it for small purchases also.

Hmmm, maybe not, with reading the TOS they do check your address but it is an alternative still and your name is not actually ON the card so that is useful.

Don’t know if you found a solution to this. However, I was having the same issues as I’m living in Ireland and touring U.K. soon and was worried about covering expenses as I don’t have a U.K. bank account and no address to set one up and lots of hotels currently aren’t taking cash etc etc...

I found Monese through reddit and the card doesn’t require proof of address just ID and it can be topped up at Payzone and Post Offices around the U.K. using cash which is ideal for me also seen as I’m going to have cash only and need somewhere to deposit it so I can use it to pay for advertising and hotels. I was able to put my Irish address down and still get a GBP account and has an online app. To date this is the only option I was able to find a prepaid debit card in U.K. that allows you to load cash onto it without proof of address.

Also the card is good for touring if you go to other EU countries as it can be used in most large EU countries such as Spain, France and Italy and again the option of loading cash onto the card in shops is available too.
