Photographer questions
« on: 20 July 2010, 09:18:26 pm »
Hi  all

I've never had my pics done by a photographer and was wondering:

- Do I sign something to say the pictures are mine?  The photographer says I don't sign anything but does that mean my pics can be used anywhere?

- Whats the average time for the pics to be forwarded on to you?  I've been told 4 working days.

Also if anyone knows a good photographer in London pls PM me.

Thankyou, Joanna x

Hi  all

You can sign anything you like, but the photographer will still own the copyright unless it is specifically transferred over to you and he relinquishes all claim to it. In theory, yes, your pictures can be used anywhere but in practice it isn't that likely if you find someone reputable - if it is important to you that the photographer doesn't use your images for self promotion on his/her own site, say, be sure you make this clear before booking them.

- Whats the average time for the pics to be forwarded on to you?  I've been told 4 working days.

As far as I know (and that isn't far since I do my own photos), most photographers will give you a disc with all of the rough images on at the end of the shoot, from which you choose the ones you want 'finishing' (if applicable) and they will then email you those once they're done - I had a professional shoot a couple of years ago and I think the whole process from start to finish took about a week, so four working days is probably about right.

Also if anyone knows a good photographer in London pls PM me.

Try the Recommended article on the main site. If you want PMs, it would help to say where you are :).

EDIT: You did say where you are, sorry! Looooong day
;D.

As Amy mentioned, you can do your own pictures. I have a mix, and I find that the amateur ones somehow reassure the clients that you are who you say you are. Also, you, a friend and a kodak could probably take far more interesting shots. Just a thought.

I'll give you a hand if you like, I can airbrush them for you too, all for the price of some fried chicken ;)
