Cutting off regular clients. Do you feel bad about it?
« on: 02 September 2023, 09:12:36 pm »
I’ve been working since 2017 and I’ve realised lately I’ve become less tolerant to certain things. I do not know if it’s my hormones but I get irritated so easily and little things piss me off. So much so, that I’ve had to cut of 3 regular clients for small things that I may be overreacting over. By small I mean it may be a comment they made that I don’t agree with or something patronising about why I’m doing this job etc. It could even be not liking the way they kiss… but I’ve been seeing them for a few months and literally do not want to kiss them again. There’s nothing wrong with this guys, their hygiene is good, they aren’t doing so much to make me feel uncomfortable. I’m starting to feel like it’s an issue with myself or I could be burnt out. Some of the reason I have are silly when I think about it. It’s just small things. Maybe I’m seeing them too often? I used to like just seeing regulars, but now I actually prefer seeing new people. Is it just me?

I know exactly what you mean! Those little things build up. I guess it depends how much you need their custom. If you can bear it and switch off afterwards then all well and good but if they leave you seething then it's probably best to make sure you're 'fully booked' every time they call. They will soon get the hint.

After 12 years of this job I hear you , this year I’ve cut off a lot of old clients who were to clingy , overstaying all the time etc,

At first yes felt bad but now I don’t get the constant messages etc I’m so much happier .

It could be burn out, or it could be that you simply can't put up with their shit.

When I am burning out, I hate EVERY ONE. Every client passes me off, even the ones I usually like. And I'll internally lose my sshit over very small things.

However, I also know that regulars get very boring to me, unless we're doing something fresh on each session. Regulars also get comfortable after a while and feel they can act in ways they wouldn't if they were a new client.

I have cut regulars off many times, and I also feel better for it. I used to be in the boat of "awww they're not that bad, they don't do anything major" but it was more how I was left feeling after it that was the indicator that I had to let them go as opposed to what they had done.

Your body, your business. Don't for a second feel bad about what you choose to do in your business.

Yeah, never feel guilty about looking after your own mental health.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."
