Incalls from my flat- worth doing and how to be discreet?
« on: 15 February 2013, 09:34:23 pm »
So after speaking to the agency owner tonight, he said they have managed to get a self serviced apartment up and running in Glasgow (where I work from time to time). They had a flat, but I think from the aspect about people in it or something (cant remember the exact words), they had to let it go.. something to do with legalities.

Unfortunately, because there isnt as much work in Edinburgh as there is in Glasgow, he isnt going to go ahead with the same idea in Edinburgh (where I am based). I do get the odd outcall there now and again, but the work seems to be more in Glasgow.

I have offered to do incalls from my flat there and they said that would be great.

For those of you who do incalls from your place; can you give me any advice regarding

-How to be discreet e.g. nosey neighbours? I think the majority of people in my block are on DSS (from having spoke to my landlady), they seem to be in alot, but there is so many new faces here, I dont know who's a visitor and who's living here.
-The legalities of working alone from your place e.g. NO other lady working there, only me?
-Any other advice so that it could work well? I just dont want to get found out via my landlady (not saying I would, but still), as it could be awful.

Thanks :)

Me again! Are you fed up with me yet?  ;D

I work from my own flat (rented) in a building with a few other tenants and have never had any problems. I?m not ?one a week booking type? of girl but I don?t see hundreds of guys either. I mention this so you know that medium-high foot traffic can still work if you?re careful and plan things.

Doing incalls from your own flat is definitely worth it (imo)

1. Make sure you don?t have bookings too close together, try to arrange them when tenants are out (you?ll get an idea of their habits after a while).
2. Worth mentioning the need to be discreet to guys so they don?t make an arse of themselves at your door. Be clear on directions and instructions so they don?t ring the wrong doorbell.
3. Try not to use buzzers, instead get them to call you so you can quietly open the door without the whole building knowing.
4. Music is good to play during the booking itself to drown out voices. Just be conscious of too much noise.
5. Mainly don?t be a nuisance and be nice to your neighbours. Don?t draw negative attention to yourself.
6. Think you?ll be ok, like you said if you can?t tell who is a visitor and who lives there, chances are others won?t be able to either.

You can?t get arrested for it so it?s legal in that sense but most tenancies have a clause forbidding the property from being used for business purposes. So don?t tell the landlord. If you pay your rent on time and are a model tenant, you'll be fine. Most landlords just want to be paid at the end day and as long as you're not trashing the place or turning it into drug den, there shouldn't be any issues

Hope that helps x

There's plenty here about the downsides and upsides (and downsides) of working from home.

It's legal for you, but it is almost inevitably against the terms of the lease if you are renting. So yes, you could lose it.

From the sounds of it, your place is busy with a high turnover of faces so it's possible that you could get away with no one noticing (or caring if they did) but it's easier for independents to screen people before they turn up, asking people where the prostitute is...
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

I work from home and the only tips I can give you.  But remember I only see two clients a day and space them out i.e one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

First take a look at your surroundings i.e. your street.  Look for parking, landmarks etc so that when you accept a booking and pass on the address you can give clear and concise direction without having some idiot shouting everything out in the street or looking dazed and confused.  When he buzzes you be sure to be standing by the intercom so that you can just let him in.

Stand by your door so that when you hear him approaching you can let him in immediately.  It also helps to sometimes especially with regulars get dressed after an appointment and walk them out.  That way it does not look too suspicious, I tend to do this with my clients but also have a lot of lunch dates where my clients collect me and we leave together.

First and foremost "vet" your clients, you do not want any tom dick and harry to know your address and show up whenever they want all hours of the night or day, drunk and abusive demanding an appointment from outside your apartment complex.

It is definately a benefit to work from home.

Get the gents to park anywhere but outside your apartment.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.
