I hate to say it Ophelia but adult entertainer is just a flowery word for a sex worker. Walk like a duck, quack like a duck, sure as f**k .........
Join the club, we are still human beings without horns or anything similar, just doing our job .......
How can I be a sex worker if having sex with people isn't part of my work? Maybe I am a wank-facilitator. Heh. I have no problem with sex workers and have thought about it myself but decided against, for now. Mostly I describe myself as a Cam Girl. That description suits me fine.
Ophelia, webcammers, strippers, fetish models, porn performers, sensual masseuses and phone chat operators are all sex workers - actually having penetrative sex (vaginal, oral or otherwise) is not the defining factor. There are plenty of people here who don't offer full sex (pro dommes/subs amongst them as well as the massage/hand relief folks) and the law views them in exactly the same way as it does the rest of us, that is, as prostitutes.
Many of the bookings the rest of us 'trad' prossies do don't involve penetration either, but that's by the by. How you choose to define yourself is entirely your concern, but given that this thread was started as a query about legal standing it's important that you're not under any illusions about the actual legal definition.
Anyway, welcome to SAAFE! It's good to have you here, and may you facilitate wanking for a good long while yet
.
Okay, well if that's your definition then yes. But I define it on slightly different terms. Anyway, I don't find it offensive or anything. I can see how easily I could have gone down that route.
It's not just Amy's definition, it's the
legal definition. And I'm not sure what 'route' you're talking about? You are a sex worker, you've gone down that route already. Unless of course you mean the vaginal intercourse route, in which case you have to remember that vaginal intercourse is just one of the many many sex acts that's out there and that I/you/we as a collective offer, and whether any of us engage in it or not, we are still legally classed as sex workers. If you meet people to give them sexual enjoyment - whether or not you even lay a finger on them - in exchange for money, you are legally a prostitute.
By the way, none of this ever has to be disclosed to the taxman, and on your tax returns you can put whatever you want (including "Adult Entertainer") as long as your expenses reflect the job you tell them you do. For example: a "hairdresser" couldn't put condoms through her books, as what does a "hairdresser" need condoms for in her line of work?
Please do read more of Saafe - the main site www.saafe.info and more of the forums. There's lots of info here about legalities, safety, admin, ways of working etc etc etc and this all should help your continuing success on the paid-sex scene
