I agree - do text/email (if he's sent texts to you it presumably occurred to him that you might reply, so he shouldn't be too shocked if you do

) an apology and explain what happened. Just be genuine and tell the truth (probably without too many kisses or "hey sexy baby my favourite client darling!" [not that you would!] just to make sure if anyone else reads it, he's not in trouble; after that, if he still decides to be cross or rude, well, you've done your absolute best so that's enough.
I find that offering him first choice of appointments should he want to reschedule sometimes works well to soothe things, or if you feel super-bad you could even offer a discount if he wants to re-book. Just bear in mind that either way, he might have just decided he's too dreadfully offended and might respond huffily to anything you say - probably not, but be prepared so you don't end up doing guilt for days on end.
