From my understanding, the recession pushed a lot of girls into this as a temporary measure. I was one of those girls, although like others the high (for me) amount of money and comfortable lifestyle swung it to a longer period for me. I worked full time, took bookings every day - but I'm not the kind of person who was seeing several clients a day. Its not my thing but more than that my persona is very Marmite like, both by nature and intentionally. Some days I could be insanely busy, tours were quite busy for a while, other days I could be totally dead to the point I'd panic over covering my living costs. It was THAT that made me burn out totally, not the actual nature of the work. I'm a bit of a control freak and the unstable income didn't sit well with me.
I quit, but I missed elements of my working life. I have a 'grown up' job now to do with my degree but I don't mind working part time whilst I'm single. It was touring I missed more - I enjoyed those deliciously hedonistic 3 day escapes than I did having to rush home post lecture to get ready in 20 minutes for a booking.
Guess it depends on your free time and incall availability - if you're paying to use hotels/apartments, I totally understand the reluctance to spend any more money if you don't know you'll make it back. If however, thats not a concern, then don't be afraid to spread it out a little more throughout the week. You can get burned out by the financial stress of self employment too.
