Hello all, I have worked in the industry for a few years and wouldn't necessarily consider myself a newcomer, but I have never worked out of country yet.
I've been lurking your forums and it seems like the way I work here is very different to the way you guys work there, so I have a few questions.

Where I live in Canada it is MUCH safer to work for an agency, even though it's legal here and regulated by the city. I have to have a city license that I must carry with me on all calls that shows I'm working legally. Even though this is a smaller city and it is legal, being an indie girl here is not something I would consider just for safety. Agencies here also don't take 50%, my agency charges the client a flat rate for me to arrive at the door, and then only takes 10% of my fee (which they never pre-negotiate for me), plus the lady I work for is wonderful and actually cares about her girls' safety.

Because of this, and how much easier I find it not having to do any of my own advertising, I was leaning towards agency work coming there.

I have never done indie work, but reading through a few of these posts about agencies vs. indie, it has made me wonder if I'm making the right choice. I feel like since I have to line something up before leaving my own country, I need a good handle on the best option for me.

So my questions are, how can I be sure I am talking with a legitimate, reputable agency? (Other than googling their name, are there any other places that might have reviews or good information I could check?)

And if I choose to go independent, how difficult is it to set up my own advertising, how far in advance would I want to put ads up, and is it possible for me to get a UK phone number from here to use in my ads, or should I wait until I arrive? Is it a good idea to have your own personal website, or are they overrated?

Also, here girls only do incall in massage parlours, and rarely if ever in their homes. Is it much more normal there to offer incall in your home? Is it common for girls to only offer outcalls?

Well, I think those are all the questions I have for now, *phew*.

Thank you for your time!

Hi. You say that a Canadian agency will only take 10%, but how much of the total the client pays is that 'turn up at the door' fee? Here, it would be rare for there to be two fees.

There are no licences to worry about (although you do need to know what any visa says about being self-employed...) Agencies are illegal (by finding people work, they 'control for gain') and while in many places no-one cares, it does restrict the sort of people who decide that running one is a good idea. Yes, that's one way to see if they might be bearable.

A variety of directories exist for people to advertise on, some free, some paid for. You can certainly start off by getting people to email and only get a phone when you arrive.

The big advantage of your own site is that you can get across more of what you offer than you can on most directories. The more you are selling your personality rather than, say, offering 15 minute quickies where you could be anyone, the more useful it is.

Incalls can be done from home, and some very lovely people work like this. It's more common to rent somewhere to work from, either as a semi-permanent base or for a day or two in a hotel etc or sub-letting someone else's place. How successful you can be only doing outcalls depends on where you are, amongst other things.

Thank you, that's some valuable food for thought. I plan on doing a working vacation before I move permanently, so that should be a great way to test the waters and find out more information.

The way escort agencies work here is that they are legal, but it is illegal for them to negotiate our prices for us. Any agency that does flat rates gets shut down fairly quickly by vice.
My agency charges $150 for me to arrive at the door, which is theirs to keep, and then I negotiate my own prices for services on top of that fee, which is what they take 10% of. I am free to negotiate whatever I feel like charging for my fee.

unless you have a job to come to  on a visa  which is normally  sponsored by your employer  and its a  tier 1 2 3 4 visa
or your a student visa which allows you to work part time when studying
I don't think you can do any sort of work self-employed or not when on a holiday visa   so if they think that you are going to be working you will be refused entry  to the uk

So if you have a ticket for more than 1 month or so  be prepared to show that you have a fair amount of money to support yourself with for that period of time that you are here  credit card statements ,bank statements  and ties to your home to show that your going to go back is all good

If your canadian born  then you don't need a visa to come to the uk  you get six month entry  clearance ,  however you do need to prove /show to the immigration officer when you arrive that you can support yourself for however long you are here
If you have relatives , friends who will meet you at the airport and let you stay with them them initially then thats all in your favour

Its also wise to have an itinerary of where your going hotels/ apartments provisionally booked in advance  and know what tourist stuff you intend to do  while your in the uk /europe

Your work in the UK will be much easier if you decide on a (nearly) all-inclusive fee ahead of time. For the basic escort booking, you need to be upfront about the whole cost in advance. Some people charge more for things like anal or watersports, but again, the clients are going to want to know in advance.

You can vary it as necessary, but if the price yo-yos too much or you have lots of 'special offers', all that will happen is that clients will wait for the cheaper times or assume that the price will go even lower and not even book then.

Hey Paris, thanks for the info but the man and I have all of that stuff sorted out already.  ;D I am just wondering about the differences working there as compared to here, and want to pre-plan how I'm going to work there before going.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. Where I am now soliciting and/or advertising prices are illegal, so that's why we do it that way. For coming there it does make a lot more sense to me to have the all-inclusive rate. Good advice.  :)
