Newspaper ads
« on: 21 March 2007, 08:58:31 pm »
It seems more ladies are supplementing their internet advertising with newspaper ads and we want to add a section on this on the main SAAFE site.

Have ladies got stories, good or bad, to tell and also figures for advertising against sort of revenue generated which we could use in the article?

Thanks.

Newspapers: I've no idea, although I can remember independents complaining about the quality of responses, plus the high 'enquiries:bookings' ratio from ads.

Magazines: if you're male and in or visiting London, there are two weekly free 'gay scene' magazines you need to at least consider. Each has about six A4 pages of full colour escort ads, up to 16 to a page. Anyone doubting the legality of explicit advertising (sexually or prostitution-wise) will be surprised at the content...

At least in this case, rivalry between them means they tend to be open to 'special' discounts for new advertisers, repeat advertisers, returning advertisers etc etc.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

To suppliment my online advertising I also use a paper ad, The Friday Ad.  Im able to submit my entries online on a weekly basis, and can even book an entry in advance should I need to.

I put the same ad in two different additions, approx 8 words plus phone number, boxed for total of just under ?60 per week.  As I submit my ad online Im able to automatically go on their online version of the paper, and have had calls from this.  Im also able to have my personal website address with my ad for free.

Ive been using this type of advertising for well over a year and it certainly works for me.  You have to remember that most guys phoning wont have seen your personal site so you do have to give out more information about yourself.  You do get a high amount of calls, along with a high amount of timewasters.  But you soon whittle those down, and after awhile you recognise numbers and dont answer the calls.

Ive had very good quality clients from the Friday Ad, some of them are now regulars.

Its working very well for me, and as long as its working I will use it.  I only need one half hour appointment from it per week and my ads are paid for.  I had considered using other local papers such as the Crawley News and The Argus, but they dont really carry many escort ads, more parlor ads.

Hope someone finds this useful.

Hugs

when i first started i did newspaper ads only and make a very goods living out of it
I now have a website and have a mixture of online and newspaper bookings
newspaper ads tend to just go for half hour bookings as they can be after a 'quick fix' then off with thier daily lives , i tend to get busy during the lunchtimes with half hour bookings adn my internets clients either wand early morning or afternoon bookings
i dont get more timewasters doing the paper ads to be honest after a while you get to know the timewasters (some even put on different voices...geez)
I only advertise once a month now just to let people know i am still around
I dont have my website on my newspaper advert for personal reasons
but 2 years on i still have regulars from my paper ad
I tend to get quite annoyed with some ladies who poo poo newspaper ads ..and some still do
they way that i think is ..dont knock it if you havent tried it

one of the downers as I can see is the sheer volume calls which means newspaper advert relies on answering phone all day. it's stressful when phone keeps ringing all day to no end.

if you have other commitments, that would interfere with getting other things done.  it all depends on individual circumstances and your style/mindset/level of dedication etc.  phone is prone to abuse but yes I can see it has upside. at the end of the day, it's an individual choice.  what may suit to one person may not suit someone else and vice versa.

everyone is different and there's no one answer that fits all. xxx

I had a call from the sport newspaper (I use that term very loosely) asking if I would be interested in having my details included in a new txt service they are offering where by prospective clients would be sent your phone number when they do a txt search on your town, naturally I declined on the basis I prefer them to read my website with my restrictions, my does and my donts and what i look like,

Besides why should a client pay for what is freely available online and most do their research before they leave for a particular area.

I had them call last week as well Beth. They left a message on my voicemail. I'm with you though. I don't see why a customer has to pay to see details that are freely available on the net.

Bit late to the party on this one [sorry been poorly and mostly offline] but anyway

I wouldn't be without local ads, they bring in as much trade if not more than our Web presence.
The Sport is a non starter as it is national and attracts more wankers than serious punters.
The best way to go about effective press advertising imho is to look at all your local papers, see which one has the most ads in the personal section and put in a line ad. If you feel the response is not cost effective or more work than it's worth then drop the ad

Until recently the only place I would advertise was in local newspapers.  I found that if I hadn't advertised for a while I would get an overwhelming amount of both calls and business, but after a few weeks I would have very few new callers and business would tail off once everyone had checked me out.  I would usually still be getting a little new business from clients who got my details the first week as much as 3 or 4 weeks leter, and of course some people who had visited the first week would keep my number and come back several times.

So, my main feeling regarding newspaper ads is that it is a waste of money to advertise every single week, and that advertising at the end of each month (payday!) is a more effective use of your advertising budget.
