Newbie in the US 3 days in
« on: 18 July 2010, 07:44:10 am »
I just started working with an agency in the US and I'm totally green to this. I feel like I'm being kept in the dark too much. I applied to many agencies and this was the first to reply but now I have several problems with them. 1) I've worked three days and STILL don't know what my split is 2) they flew me across the country and now I'm stuck in a hotel and don't know anyone here 3)they send a girl everyday to collect all the money I've made, when am I going to get my cut because I am broke. 4) they send me a client every thirty minutes 5)they expect me to negotiate once the client gets there instead of having a flat fee. Fortunately I received an email from another agency who has a much better pay structure as well as a website and good reviews on theeroticreview.com. Should I leave this other agency and how do I ask for my money? Remember I'm new so if I've been being an idiot, please be gentle with your responses.

Hi Christion and welcome to SAAFE  :)

Unfortunately, it sounds like you've been had - the usual arrangement is for you to collect your fee from the client and then pay the agency cut into their bank account (although I understand that some places to send others round to collect commission, but they have NO reason to be taking your money as well). I realise that what is normal in the US may be different to the UK agency-wise, but it is pure exploitation to isolate you from your own surroundings and then coop you up in a hotel room like a battery chicken, and send one client after another.

I have heard from others that negotiating happens more in America because of the illegality of prostitution - it doesn't happen here as a general rule but there are posts scattered about on here about ladies having a 'basic' fee which pays for them to turn up and nothing else, then everything else is extra but a cient should surely still have some idea of how much he is paying? This agency are just making you do their dirty work for them - you are being told to extract as money as possible from each client presumably - where are the agency if someone turns nasty?

I would phone them and ask straight out when you are going to be paid - I cannot imagine that this is acceptable agency practive anywhere. You need to get away from them, and I'm sorry to say if it was clear that getting my money was going to be difficult I would go anyway and join the new place, provided they are a responsible operation (TER reviews are a good sign) and you wouldn't just be jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

I'm sure some agency/US folks will be along to plug the gaps but if you are really that green, you shouldn't be working yet - please read through the main site and have a look through the forum for more information that will help you. And let us know how you get on.

As well as what Amy said, I am concerned that you don't know how much money you should / might see at the end of this. I suspect you will never see it.

You have internet access, so you can get home, even if you have a return ticket?

Although you've been committing a crime because of stupid US laws, the 'agency' has been committing worse ones. It's the centenary of the Mann Act (the 'White-Slave Traffic Act 1910'), which makes what they've done - have you cross a state line for purposes of prostitution - a federal offence, for example.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

I agree - if they intended to pay you, why would they have taken you money from you when you had it in the first place? I would be inclined to write it off as a bad job and leave - you've learnt a lesson and the situation sounds so appalling I think your immediate priority ought to be your safety and physical and mental well-being.

You can try and get the money you are owed (0r if you have any they have not collected yet, I don't think any of us would call you for sticking it in your bag and taking it with you) but I don't rate your chances. if they threaten you with the law though, remember what Ian has just said  :).

I certainly wouldn't call you! It looks like you aren't going to see any money, ensure that you keep hold of your money from todays clients, and go to the airport as soon as you have sufficient to get home.

Mhm, my first reaction to the OP was, "You've been trafficked". :-\

The rest of the reaction was Get The Hell Out Of There. Please, as quickly as possible. Cut your losses and run. If they're unscrupulous enough to do what they've done to you (fly you away from home, trap you in a hotel room and pimp you out dozens of times a day, taking ALL your earnings from you) then god knows what else they can think of.

Please. Go home right away - call your family, friends or the police if you need to. Even if you just need support. I know the police and legality and everything is different in the US but really, your personal health and safety are at risk right now so you need to concentrate on that.

I hope you're okay. Update us if you can? We're here to help. :)

Yes, this is really worrying. I think it would be risky to challenge them about the money or mention leaving while you're in their territory. Leave now and if you can't go straight to the airport, go somewhere safe. A women's shelter might be good if you don't want to risk going to the police.

If you do then ask for your money they may well say that you forfeited it all by leaving without telling them or something. Don't be fooled, they're acting like despicable traffickers, not like people who ever intend to pay you for your work.

I know this is the reverse of what would normally be advised, but I wouldn't call the police. (Unless its a really life or death scenario) They would probably arrest you. Just go, as safely as you can.

I haven't heard anything from them so far today. But I'm sure tomorrow will be busy.  So I will keep whatever earnings I make tomorrow and hit the airport. I thoroughly intend on giving them a  chance to give me my money. I have text conversations, phone numbers and descriptions of cars  as well as tag numbers. I'm going to ask them politely for my money first and if I'm not successful then I will call law enforcement "anonymously" once I'm safe at the airport. I can't leave today because I don't have a dime and my credit card balance is negative : /

Also, next time, do some serious research into your prospective agency, and try and make contact with girls who already work for them. Let us know you get home safe please..I had to come back to also say can you let a friend know what is happening? And give them the information? Just so if they don't hear from you by a certain time then perhaps they could call on your behalf?

Fortunately, I just got off the phone with a rep from desirable companions and they said that I can come work for them. They actually have a website and excellent TER reviews so I'm excited to say the least. We talked foe at least 3 hours and I feel much more comfortable with them.

Oh My God baby!! >:( You have just been trafficked!!

This is ridiculous. I think you should just come home. You don't have to worry about TER and nobody else if you can just get back to the UK. Take your day's earnings and get to the airport as quickly as possible, and do not try to negotiate with these people. Just go home.
Don't worry about the other agency, just get on a plane.

I am begging you...PLEASE come home :-\

Erm, I could be wrong but I suspect the OP is American, Tiffani.

Yes I am not in the UK and I am completely comfortable with this new agency. As a matter of fact after a long 3 hour phone call it turns out I went to college with the gentleman I spoke to on the phone. He as well assured me that I had been trafficked and that they would send a car to get me if necessary but that I needed to leave immediately. I am leaving tomorrow afternoon. Thank you all for your concern. I think I will be fine now and definitely know better and have more insight to the world of escorting.
