Taxes and Savings
« on: 06 November 2012, 10:39:33 am »
At some point in the near future I'd like to start saving for my retirement, and I'm wondering whats the best way to go about it.  I'm very wary of taking out some form of pention and you can only put so much a year into an ISA.  I'd also like some advice regarding tax as well.  If any of you could pm me and I can give you a better idea of what I'm on about.

I would suggest seeking help from a Financial Adviser rather than other members Dexi as I'm not aware of any of us being qualified to give such information.

I agree with Diana - Dexi, you're welcome to PM me if you like (I have a Stakeholder pension, an OEIC and an ISA and I can tell you how I went about setting them up, and how I decided how much to put in them and so on), but the tailored advice is definitely better from an expert. If you Google Independent Financial Advisor and your area that ought to turn a few up, and I think quite a few will do you a free consultation for half an hour, or similar :).

I have paid into a stakeholder for years, it doesn't give the greatest return however it is flexible with low fees and can be moved around ie doesn't rely on being with a particular employer/self-employed or whatever. Filling up your ISA allowance every year is also a very good idea and easy enough to do.
