Experience working sporting events
« on: 29 June 2023, 05:37:44 pm »
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of working large sporting events like Wimbledon, Royal Ascot etc or even festivals like Glastonbury? I'm considering maybe working them for next year, have they proved to be profitable?

When you say 'working' them, what do you mean? Staying in a nearby hotel and putting up tour ads (and good luck getting anything at a sensible price near a big event when it's on) or actually going out on foot trying to pick up punters?

As for Glastonbury, do you actually want to try and do business with pissed up middle class weekend stoners who haven't showered for days? I can imagine varying degrees of success with the others, but I'd be giving that one a swerve  ;D

There's a big golf tournament happening up in St Andrews and was thinking of doing outcalls to hotels in that area. I think since its golf it would attract clients who would be able to pay my prices, possibly higher even, plus loads of Americans/ Internationals in the area so good idea to possibly expand client base now I'm indie. Just wondering if thats been the case with other similar events like the Ascot/ Wimbledon and if it would be worth even trying

Would it be worth it once you'd paid for the hotel though? I had a look at the London hotel prices this week with Wimbledon on, and they're even more insane than usual (the ones that aren't full, anyway).
