Name changes
« on: 27 May 2009, 10:36:12 pm »
Hi All

Havent been around for a while as moved house and internet connection very dodgy for a month, its good to be back.

I was wondering if anyone here has experience of changing their working name and if so what effect did the change have on their business if any? Basically i have been escorting now for nigh on a year and have been with a couple of different agencies. I am thinking about changing over again due to problems with the limited hours my agency is open etc. However I'm quite worried about getting a reputation as somebody who is constantly changing agency (i have been told by an agency owner in the past that this is something to avoid) I ve even been considering working 2 agencies with different names (although a lot of agencies in Newcastle frown on this)
Therefore i was considering if a name change may be in order to help me start again. My current agency is quite a 'down market' one so possibly a new name could help me shake off the connotations of working for it? sort of like a fresh start i guess (although i do like the name Colette and will be loathe to let it go.

Any insights or advice would be much appreciated :D

I've changed my name many times and each one seems to result in better clients.  Do not believe your agent's patent lies that switching agencies is a bad thing.  For them maybe!  Businesses change their names all the time, and at the end of the day you aren't an escort or a prostitute, but a business.  Any clients you may wish to retain will respect this business decision.

Businesses change their names all the time

Exactly. Like Banks and phone companies  :D

I havent changed my name since, for some reason I liked to be called a certain name. However, I have changed my number and I can tell you that probably has a greater effect on business LOL. I changed my number nearly 2 months ago and it took a while for some to catch on. However, they all recognize me from my ads and pictures, so I can change all of that and they'll know where to find me.

In fact, how about when I got my work phone I still had my personal number (which used to be my work&personal line). Well even after I posted my number on the ads, I had 2 clients call my old number; suggesting that many actually look at your ads days before they even call you, save your number, and call you when they're ready. Yet we think they're calling at the last minute  :o

I think a name change can be an excellent thing! It's like a spring clean. When you change your name, you can get rid of old stuff you didn't like (like an old agency, or a weird old client) and get some nice new things (new pics can be fun, or new rates!).

Also, if this is your first name change in your year of working, then I don't think you'd be labelled as a 'serial name-changer' (I guess punters think those women must have something to hide? Tsk. They're probably all just trying to get rid of stalkers and clients who threaten to take them to court for providing a good service because they are mental).

Anyway! I think you're right about the fresh start idea. The good thing about escorting is that you can make your new 'persona' wonderful, using your experience so far to change whatever you want to make the ideal type of escort that you want to be, while still keeping on the old one for a little bit while you switch. My agency persona is dwindling because I'm sick of the way they work and only occasionally take bookings from them, but it's good to have in the background while I try to establish my indie self. So I think for any wg, that can reduce the stress of "reinventing" yourself! :)

A friend of mine changed her name after suffering some harrassment from another girl which was starting to extend to the children being dragged into things. The harrassment did not go away completely but, most importantly, my friend felt much brighter about the whole thing. New work enquires increased too (she was already busy) and her old clients managed to find her so sometimes a change is as good, even better, as a rest.

Some people will assume you are trying to get away from a bad reputation, and to be fair, some girls do change their name for that reason, but I wouldn't worry too much about that, people will always gossip and speculate, let them get on with it while you enjoy the change.

Yes ive read opinions on Punternet where guys have said that the only reason a girl would change her name is to get rid of a bad reputation >:( typical male thing to say,im sure it wouldnt cross their minds that it might be to shake off a creepy, stalker client etc! grrrrr it makes me mad.

Well my reputation is fine,i have good feedback from my clients and quite a lot of return clients with my current agency.
Even if i kept my name though im not sure my current clients would follow me to my new agency as it charges higher rates and doesnt do the half hour 'quickies' that my current agency offers (another reason im thinking of changing over, bit fed up with feeling like im on a 30 minute man production line :()

And yes i do think agencys say things like moving from one to the other makes you look bad purely to keep you working for them. Trouble is im finding that with most of them after 6 months tops i start to get fed up with the way they are running things etc and want to move on. Hopefully to find my 'perfect' agency which clearly doesnt exist.

Im considering staying with my current agency with my present name and joining another one with a new persona and see how things go. Its definately encouraging to see that most of you have had positive experiences from changing your names.
