What do you do when someone's running late?
« on: 09 July 2013, 03:14:27 pm »
I'm supposed to have a booking 10 minutes ago.  He's just phoned to say he's stuck in traffic.  Now I normally leave an hour between bookings just in case such a thing happens.  However I've got someone in at 4.30pm (as he was unable to make later), so decided to squeeze him in.  I can't ring or text my 4.30pm to push him back as he asked me not to, so I've made it clear to the 3pm that if he hasn't got here by 3.15pm then I won't be able to see him (unless he's willing to see me for a shorter time).  Bloody traffic  :FF

What would you do in this situation?

See him for a shorter time. This happens to me quite often because traffic can be horrendous in my area. I always try to complete every job if I possibly can. Most of them appreciate it, especially the regulars. Can always make it up next time, but don't forget it's their fault not yours. I've occasionally had guys who are late wait until after the next booking if there is time afterwards.

Lucky you roseanna! Most of my customers are soooo impatient so if my last one runs late and things are delayed they cancel! It is my pet hate!

"1st across the line" process?
Agree to see the late punter.
  • A. If they don't turn up, you still have punter number 2.
  • B. If they do turn up and finish early, no harm done.
  • C. If they do turn up and take the full hour, you have earned and still have a chance of punter number two.
I've had a lot of past jobs acting differently and loosing both jobs.
Since doing the above, I keep maybe 75% of the punter number 2 jobs.

I do the above for both punters running late and for instances where two punters
both want to see me at the same time / where there is an appointment overlap.

This is EXACTLY what airlines do. It's called overbooking.
And like airlines, I KNOW that I will always have a % of no-shows.

Thank you for your replies.
I saw Mr 3pm at 3.15 for 45 mins.  He was happy just to see me.  My 4.30 is now running late.  Typical. lol

Sods law dexi, we worry ourselves silly at times for no reason.  Then when this happens we wonder why.
Beauty is nothing to do with having a pretty face.
It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart,
And most importantly a beautiful soul.

It doesn't always work, but my rule is that I always finish on time if there's another one following. With a half hour gap I'll reduce that if really necessary but not below 15 mins. If a client is late then they have to understand they've used their own time up by being late. The regulars mostly do, and anyone who doesn't can find someone else to be late arriving to. Most clients prefer to have a shorter session and at least cum then miss the appointment altogether.

He was happy just to see me.

Usually the case. I get quickly on to the sex and they end up a happy bunny!

Nothing worse than turning down a booking for the following not to turn up. I'd try and accommodate the first first, but if he was close to the second I'd give him a choice - cancel altogether or agree to contact him if your next appointment doesn't turn up.

In this case I would accept the late guy but explain I have to leave my phone on so when number 2 arrives I can explain I'm running late. Number 2 asked you not to text him so you would have had no way of letting him know.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

Jodie runs a "1st across the line" process.
I apply this in all cases except where punter number two is a long term regular.
I always agree to see the late punter.

I do exactly the same procedure. but not all punters are happy about it, usually the number 2 punters are pissed off because they are already on their way to me to be on time or even worse they already arrived on time then leave and fuming. Had one guy once who left my 1h fee in an envelope slipped under my front door and left because it was 7.05pm and his appointment was at 7pm and i was in the middle of a late punter number 1 booking and told him i will need 5 mins.

Wow!  He still paid even though he didn't get to see you.  Lucky girl.  I suspect most guys wouldn't.
