My "name" change !!!!! Advice please!
« on: 17 July 2008, 11:13:05 am »
Hi All.

OK so I am known here as Nell2 as that is my nickname on AW.

I started life as an escort on aw and whilst there are conflicting views on the site, it has been good to me.

However, now with a desire to promote myself in more directories I have got myself a website and have decided to go with a new name "Alexandra".

Don't really know why I chose Nell and cannot even remember!!!  I think it was spur of the moment and did not give much thought to it, but have given a lot of thought to my new name and hence I am now going to be Alexandra.

(I sound like Prince dont I !!! LOL !!! Maybe I should just give myself a symbol and say ............... formerly known as Nell!! LOL!).

But seriously now - I have a small dilema - I am now "out there" known as Alexandra on my site and hence many directories, but on aw I am still Nell (Nell2 to be precise).

I am seriously thinking about changing my aw nickname to Alexandra but just not sure............ as so many clients do call me Nell - will it seem odd now?

However, I am well aware that the same clients do know that is not my real name, so why should I worry.

The only other thing is that anyone searching for me would not find me under Nell2 anymore (but then how much business would I lose that way ?  Maybe none........ so again why worry?).

To be honest, I am inclined to change the aw name as I want to move on from Nell to Alexandra, but just thought I would post here for your thoughts.

Apologies as I did post this a while back when I first thought of it and do recall Anika Mae saying don't worry - change it but just thought I would post again for your current thoughts and opinions as I love to hear what you all think.

Take care to all and have a great day.
This is the best site in the world!!!!
Alexandra !!! (formerly known as Nell2).xxx

Well, I still think you should go ahead with it. If you do:

I think it's possible to change your name on AW, and then if people try to go to your profile using a link or searching for your old name (in full: I don't think just searching for "Nell" wold work) they'll be taken to your profile with the new name.

If customers ask you about the change and seem to think that Nell is your real name, you could say or imply that you've decided to take a working name but they can still call you Nell. Then they'll feel special for getting to use your "real" name!

The AW thing I can't help you with, but for your site, why not put your old working name on there as part of your blurb?
For nearly five years I used to be known as Buxom Brandy, then I retired for all of about 6 weeks and had to come back to work. But when I tried to buy back my domain name it had already gone, so I made up another working name that I've been now using for the past couple of years. I put on my site something along the lines of "for those with 20/20 vision yes, it is that gorgeous woman Brandy". I can't remember exactly what without looking but that's the gist of it.
Just put something witty on your site that refers to your old persona. And that way it gives your clients a choice in what they'd like to call you. I have clients that call me by both my working names and it's not confusing in the slightest. To those who ask I briefly explain the name change and they're fine with it.

Plus it also works when I'm being Googled.

Letting old domain names go is rarely a good idea, especially while you still have a good 'working' reputation or lots of traffic. It'll get snaffled up, either by someone else who wants to get the benefits of your reputation or a porn etc site after the traffic.

As a .uk domain costs about a fiver a year, you don't exactly save much by letting it go either.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

... or by domain kiters. They got my domain when I forgot to renew it, and they'll grab anything that has traffic. The good news is that if it happens to you it is possible to get your domain back fairly soon for the normal registration rate, but it's a pain, so avoid it!

In my case I really wasn't that bothered to be honest. By then I had already decided not to show my face (whereas I did before) anymore and I took it as a sign to come up with something new. I was basically starting from scratch, which I was fine with.

Yes, the Buxom Brandy site was good for traffic and I was pretty high profile, but for my purposes I was happy to let that go.

Thanks to all for your comments.

Have changed my aw profile now to Alexandra and has not been a problem from what I can see so far!  Worrying about nothing really.

A few regulars have texted just to mention it and ask why = more out of curiosity than anything else!

Am glad I have done it as feel my new name suits me more than the old one!

have a great weekend all
Love
Alexandra !!!
