Workers rights?
« on: 08 March 2012, 07:46:08 pm »
Hi Ladies,

I keep having brain waves of different things so im hoping some of you may be able to help me.
As mentioned in a previous post I divide my time as an indie aswell as working for an agency.
This may be a really stupid question but as workers do we have any rights??

Im just hoping for some information in this area. When I get paid from the agency obviously this is done in cash and then its upto me how I handle my finances and tax situation as im not exactly on an official payroll with a payslip at the end of each month!!
But - I really am abit vague on what rights if any we have?

Thanks ladies xx

You're not on a payroll because you're not an employee - the agency work for you finding you clients and arranging bookings which is why you are paying them a chunk of your earnings. You have the same workers rights as any self employed person working by themselves but the agency have no obligations to you because technically you are employing them.

Dandan, are you saying that you are being paid by the agency and not directly by the punters? This shouldn't really be happening - you ought to be getting cash directly from your client before you do any work, and paying the agency it's commission afterwards.
