Multiple email addresses, same person?
« on: 21 June 2012, 11:01:39 pm »
Is there any way of knowing if emails from different addresses/people are actually from one person with multiple accounts? Maybe I?m just being paranoid, but I?ve had far more email TWs than usual and a fair few have similarities. I?d Google it but have no idea what terminology to use. Thanks.

PT.

You need to look at the email header for each one so you can compare the IP addresses - I only know about Hotmail, but on there you can click on something like View Message Source in the options which will let you see if they're coming from the the same computer.

I realise I haven't explained it very well because I don't properly understand it myself, but hopefully somebody a bit more techy will shortly be along to be a bit more helpful :).

Oh my God, I've caught my first one! ;D Same IP address, different email addresses. One already listed under "Timewasters, idiots and not sures" with his IP address taken note of, when 2nd nobber today emails me and I thought, hmm, he's a wanker and I also recognise that IP  8) Now I know I'm not paranoid and that there really are multi-nic email wankers contacting me. Ah, happy days  ;D Just wish I'd discovered this trick months ago  :'(

Do any of you ladies take note of IP addresses and caught anyone out and, if so, how did you react to the TW? I'm not going to let him know because I bet there are ways of these twats masking their IPs and I want to have the upper hand.

That is interesting. I have done a little IP search and found one or two odd things.

An email here and there which I know from whom and they are in the UK but the IP
trace puts them in the USA or Ireland ! What is that about?  I followed the very simple instructions
on that link you posted and that is what is happening.

there are certain softwares you can buy on the internet to hide/mask your ip address.  Emails sent from say Blackberrys are also hard to track.  If i had an outcall enquiry I always checked the route source of email as a friend kindly showed me now to do this.  It has saved me from quiet a few timewasters who just like to book and not show up for the fun of it.  If they are persistent offenders, i know this is childish but i usually send them an email back with an attachment saying naughty pic of me and its a virus.  Not proud of myself for that as i am lowering myself to their levels but makes me smile to think he wont be messing some other lady around for at least a few hours.

Hi,
this is ok if someone send an email from websites which allow to send emails to external addresses (for example from hotmail to yahoo) but, how can I check an email if it has been sent from a website which allows to send emails to itself only? for example, emails of some website can be sent and read by AW members only... for adultwork it's not a problem because there is the "alias service" but for other ones i don't know.

ips can be static or  non static  so just because an ip says its birmingham dosnet mean it is

blackberry emails are notoriously hard to crack  (thats why the police hate them and criminal love them ( i read somewhere that it was desgined for MI5 and M16  because they are very secure in particular the blackberry messenger  bit )

also if say your in a country like Dubai where sex /gambling sites are banned  you can download software that allows your  pc to appear to be searching  from america  or canada or the uk so that you can surf adult sites with there  no problems so this would give a person a different ips as well
you can also have this on your pc in the uk  and you can pick where you want it to be located  if you see what i mean

Also, if for whatever reason you're reluctant to download IP-hiding software, you can simply use a proxy-server such as turbohide. You simply go to their website and it opens another window within which you browse as you normally would but it masks your IP by giving you a false one.
It's also a very handy if you're on a borrowed PC (e.g using a public PC in a hotel) as any websites viewed through the proxy-server won't show up on the history file and websites that are often blocked (such as AW) can then be accessed.

I have a question though -  is it possible for more than one computer to have the same IP address? i.e. is it possible that these emails I?ve been receiving are actually from different people who just happen to share the same IP address? Because if that?s the case I can?t blacklist those with the same IP just because one was a twat, and my twat detection system will be useless.

Spangle, that?s interesting info...unfortunately especially for any man who might be reading this and wants to know how to be an even better email TW by hiding his IP  :(

As far as I know, two different computers can't have the same IP (although if it was two in the same house connected to the same wifi/router I'm not sure).

Most people who would use them know about proxy IPs already. You can check if somebody is using one relatively easily :).
