i had something similar happen to me ( not being outed as such as i couldnt give a flying fuck) but  i had to change my website overnight to different domain name the lot  my webmaster did it for me in 48 hours and i have cms  and its brill as i can do all my changes myself  i log in through my blog and do it all there and the only thing i cant do is change add picture  and banner links ect

Well so far I've always had same day response from this guy and often within the hour! As it is he has  updated my website within an hour of me mailing him and also added some blurs for the ones I did not have blurred copies of.

I take on board what you say though that it is possible he could just vanish. I did think of getting CMS but that is extra money lol. Also, as you know I am not very tech savvy when it comes to these things?

I would not like to waste my money on something I cannot do/use. For example, I have a basic picasa photo editing  programme  but I have no idea how to use  it to blur my face !

I suppose  being my own webmaster would be useful in terms  of instant access foe updating stuff like location and availability. Food for thought..........

Hi,

The  thing is that I already have my website up and running. I have already paid someone to build it. But the problem  is that for me to have control and cms the guy who built it  wants to charge me to have the CMS. there is nothing to say that this should be the case online.

So  are you suggesting I just go and build another site of my own having paid for one that is up and running?

More annoyingly than that some guy just called me and asked me why I have  now blurred out my face  lol.

It is ironic isn't it; the one person I would be worried about finding me seemingly finds me ......... talk about sod's law

That depends entirely up to you. If blurring your face is the only change you've done in the last 6 months and you rarely make any web changes maybe there's no need for investing in CMS. If you like to change pictures frequently, or updates, or post touring info etc... Then you will definately need it. In my case I update my web with new content, pics etc.. every month (as well as change backgrounds & colours). I've noticed  that it keeps the guys" interested". The stats tell me that I get double the hits than when it was a static web. But that's just me, i know of a lot of people who rarely update their website and do pretty well.

My website is very recent and the photos so don't think I need any updates on it. The blur  thing is the only recent change yes.

My concern now is that everyone is telling  me that I should be able to have CMS access for free but the webmaster who built it is wanting to charge me for this?

I have no idea how to get out of this. It is very tempting to copy or rather paraphrase Emily's take on it lol but not sure how well that would go down! Oh dear  :-\

if your going to do it yourself then just  copy and save all the text you have on your website  ( it will save you a lot of time having to rewrite everthing later on)
it dosnt matter what everyone else says that cms shouldnt be chargeable -   if he want to charge you for it he can  if he is the one looking after your website

do you own the domain name  ie  was it you that bought it it from, somewhere like 123 reg  or did he buy it for you
if it was him then  its probably registered to him anyway  so techically he owns the website name   so  he  do what he wants with it   ie  he can easily do a runner  or just lose interest and there would be nothing you could do anyway  ( (this happend to me)

My website is very recent and the photos so don't think I need any updates on it. The blur  thing is the only recent change yes.

All I saw was professional website for 150. That is what the guy who designed it quoted me and that is what I paid.
Now , all of a sudden he wants another 100 quid for the CMS.

I reckon, that as I have now asked him to blur my photos he is is playing  the damsel in distress will pay to get CMS  blah blah. Cynical? Moi?

Oh and Paris, did you say that CMS was included but you cannot change photos or add banner links?

I am just double checking that is correct because i am absolutely even less inclined to give him anything if I won't even be able to chnage photos/add links banners???

Yes min was 150    if you look at it http://www.bristolebonyescort.co.uk      if you click on the blog bit thats where i log in  under admin
i dont change the picture and do the banners ect as i cant do it myself  i find it to time consuming as you have to load them up and put them in a specific place ect and   i find it a real pain in the ass as i end up wiping out the  other banners and pictures and they go all over the places   ;D  So when i want links and photos added i just send my websmaster an email with either the link or the photos to be added and he dose it straight away for me
everything else i can do myself through the admin bit so i can change my rates tour date blog twitter general info

It does state quite clearly on his site he charges extra for a cms.

My concern now is that everyone is telling  me that I should be able to have CMS access for free but the webmaster who built it is wanting to charge me for this?

I think this is getting a bit confused, Emily suggested with the amount of free scripts out there, anybody with a bit of knowledge can if they wish to build a free cms. In saying that, there is nothing stopping anybody building a CMS and charging for it. At the end of the day, while I agree its a bit steep, your webmaster makes his fees clear, and its up to you if you choose to pay for the services he offers.

So he's charging you 300 a year for design, plus domain plus CMS. But if you get  moonfruit site and a domain that's around 15 pounds a month (please anybody correct me if I'm wrong) were you get total control of the site. Which comes to 180 a year (?). So basically you're saving 100 pounds by being your own webmaster (?).

The 150 pounds is a one off payment . Not per year. Everything else he  has done has been for free.
The cms is also a one off fee. I own the domain name yes.

Paris, that is my point about paying for the cms lol. I would not be able to change the photos or banners and would need my webmaster anyway to do it.

I was just concerned by people's comments that he could just disappear/ do a runner and I would not be eble to contact him!

At the moment, I have the same arrangement as you. I email him and he changes it pretty sharpish on the day!

Going back to the being outed concern, Mr double standards has changed his tune. He now says he will not tell my family but if I  continue with my foolhardy decision then he will have to cut his ties. He says it has nothing to do with sexual jealousy or anything but merely because he cares and it would be too painful.

Oh and he tried to scaremonger me by saying that what I wish to do is high risk and I could end up dead! He said plenty of prosies end up dead or injured and he  doesnot wish to be the one to get the phone calls.

Hmmmmm no I have not thought any of that through myself! Nevermind, at least he has backed down with the threats and even if he does do it then I will just deny anything as people have suggested....

what you could do is pay the 100 for the cms  and then agree with the webmaster to pay a maintanance fee each month of say  10 -20 pounds  so that he can do the banners and photos for you  that way your in control of all the stuff that is important and easy to do  ie  changing  text, tours , prices, blogs, ect  and then he is on hand for anything that you dont understand
that what i do even though yes the option to add remove my photos and banners is there on my cms i just cant be assed to do it

if you been happy with him so far and hes been ok so far in terms of reliability and getting stuff done quickly when you ask for it to be done,  then  a good competent webmaster is worth his weight in gold ( imo)

while there are lots of free scripts out their its still his time to add /create it to your website and if its clearly mentioned on his website that cms is a further 100 pounds then hes not ripping you off

Its quite common to do this ( pay a monthly fee)  i do  for my 2 websites that i have  but i know that my webmaster get my photos and banners done for me straight away

otherwise you could just get a moonfruit site or free site and do it all yourself

The only way to find my website is to know about AW or another escort advertising site or this forum.

Your website is at the top of some (admittedly specific) Google searches:
http://www.google.co.uk/webhp?hl=en#hl=en&q=%22rubber+and+pvc%22+escort+%22Barnet+Herts%22&fp=1

And your AW profile is the fourth result for 'barnet hertfordshire bisexual escort'

Could a mutual friend have searched for that, recognised you and told this guy?
