It does sound like the classic "I'm going to be a big, regular spender" line - which guys often give before a first appointment to try impress you. Ok, sometimes it is completely true but I'm afraid it can also used to either persuade you see them at an inconvenient time (either fully booked or not working that day), or (as admitted by guys on another forum) to impress you thinking they will get a better service (i.e. you will work harder at pleasing them). This line may also be used to negotiate a discount. For my regulars proof is in the pudding, as they say.
I treat every appointment the same - whether it be a one or regular appointment giving my best for each.
If he really is genuine I wouldn't quote a rate for such a long time until we had had at least one booking together. That way you can guage how 'involved' the date will be and the 'physicalities' involved.
So, perhaps you could tell him you will let him know after his first appointment - after all most professionals wouldn't be expected to give a quote before seeing what the 'job' entails.
