U18 block on serviced apartment wifi [was: Made a Booboo]
« on: 02 August 2019, 06:41:37 pm »
So I'm touring using a hol lettings site (no not air bnb) On arrival I realised the WiFi was not 18+. I contacted the owner to ask and they said they weren't happy to change this. Now that's ok but then it became clear that she'd also contacted the site who sent an email telling me off.

Now you may think oh you are drawing attention to yourself, but in fact this has happened before and owners haven't batted an eyelid, just changed the settings. If she'd just said no, fine but the fact is she contacted the agency and clearly thinks I'm doing something wrong, when I'm not.

Now I'm concerned that I just shouldn't work whilst here, that I've raised red flags. I've never had anyone had a,hissy fit about this before. I have very limited data as well.

I'm sitting here feeling very wound up waiting for another response to my polite reply saying I'm happy to abide by this bit did she need to involve the company.

She's made me feel like a criminal and not sure if a dare work.

What do you think?

Do you need the wifi to be adult friendly? I can manage things like AW emails and profile edits on my phone and you don't need masses of data to do it? :)

If I'm very very careful I can just use my phone. Its slow and has very limited data tho. I'm annoyed at myself as I nearly didn't email to ask this person as if I almost knew she'd respond like this!

Just worried I've raised reg flags, even though as I said when I've asked at previous places they've just changed it.

I'm probably over thinking it worrying about her charging over here catching me in the act!

Depending on how rabid the blocking is, it will catch lots of sites that are perfectly reasonable - I must have said that, as supplied to a project for male and trans sex workers, a Web terminal blocked the whole of bbc.co.uk because the word 'breasts' appeared somewhere on it.

Just use the Opera browser with its VPN or look up setting your DNS to use Cloudflare servers (just Google it).

I never use e.g. hotel wifi. I have a fair data allowance so just use 3G on my iPad and phone.

You could download a VPN app in your app store. They work well

Thanks I will try some of your suggestions. It wasn't so much that she said no, but the fact she treated me like a criminal by reporting me to the agency. I mean who does that.

It is Sky WiFi and she got the agency to tell me off saying kids could access it, when it's password protected ...

Well you can counter that when you leave making a complaint about her weird rudeness and unhelpfulness you asked a perfectly reasonable question. For all she knows you might have just wanted to play online bingo or something.

That was my plan, I will have to wait till I get my deposit back, but she is definitely not getting a good review.
