Lost tampon!
« on: 12 March 2017, 12:14:26 pm »
Gah! I used one of the tiniest, lowest-flow non-applicator Lillets with a bit of natural yoghurt on last night; I'm at the end of my period when I'm prone to getting thrush, hence the yoghurt.

I always feel for the string after application, but woke up this morning and nothing. I can't feel it, but I can never get my fingers very far up my fanny (i.e. have never been able to feel IUD strings). It's not in the bed, but unfortunately I flushed the loo without looking, so there is a chance it came out.

Unfortunately, I can't find my mum's old pair of snub-nosed clamps, but I have got some long bubble-nosed dissecting tweezers - no joy with those. I had a bath and then got my vibrator out to see if having an orgasm would push it out, but still nothing.

Any tips? And if it doesn't appear will I be OK waiting to go to the clinic tomorrow? If I get there around noon it will have been in ~32 hours. I'm just not sure I can face the local A&E today, not least as I need to get some civvy work finished by tonight.

Would have thought with a lilets you can only push them in as far as your fingers would reach, over night it could have dropped a bit and my guess is if you've done a poo this morning the straining could have forced it out especially if its extra slippery from having been coated in yoghurt.

Maybe go to A&E today, don't wait. You will have to go anyway to make sure it's not inside, so the sooner the better right?

Tampons lost inside women are fairly common for nurses, happened to a few of my friends. Plus there's nothing more normal than a tampon during your period so no reason at all to feel embarrassed.

I always pull on the string real hard before inserting my tampon. Just to make sure it's not a faulty one.

If there is any chance the tampon is still in then you really need to get it looked at tonight as you could develop toxic shock syndrome if a tampon is left in for any length of time. You could always phone 111 they might be able to get you a appointment at the out of hours service which will save you waiting ages in A&E.
I do think it is likely to have been pushed out while you were on the toilet but better safe than sorry

This has happen to me, had to do to the hospital and wait for ages. Since then I just add more string to the already existing string in the tampon when I use natural yogurt on it.
It needs to be sterilized cotton string (at least I wont use anything else, I buy it at the pharmacy) and you just make a knot with it to the existing little string, that way you will always be in the clear.

Get some proper help like nemature said. It's definitely not something you want to wait on.

Well, I've decided to tough it out and go to the clinic tomorrow, so if you never hear from me again, you'll know it was a mistake!

I don't want to make it painful, but I've had a couple of furkles and still can't feel anything, so I'm hoping it did just fall out, but honestly cannot tell.

Just got home - five hours travelling and waiting time etc., and no tampon! Oh well, better safe than sorry. I'd never imagine one could fall out without me noticing, even a small one. It was quite a bizarre conversation with the SHO who saw me, who mentioned calling a consultant if she couldn't find it. I was thinking, 'Where the fuck would it be?!'

A silver lining: after doing my own swabs in my last 2-3 screens, at least today she confirmed my IUD strings were still present and correct.
