I have no problem with refusing somebody saying 'sorry, this is not going to work'.  Guys come with all kind of excuses too, if done in a polite and respectful manner I do not thing is anything wrong with it. 

Worse case scenario is when you travel to his premises or he travels to your premises and he/she invested time and money in this ............ yet be safe than sorry.

Keeping it neutral, short and sweet helps as less is more.  You are not required to give a lengthy explanation further than "I don't think we are compatible". When they have a royal winge up, just thank them for their call, say goodbye and block to avoid any possible drama. Next.
