CBP, facial recognition, Clearview
« on: 06 February 2025, 11:27:25 pm »
When entering the US first time on an ESTA as a foreigner, does CBP have access to my previously published but deleted media linked to sex work via facial recognition, given that Clearview reportedly scrapes sex worker's media, does CBP automatically receive and store them? If online search tools (FaceCheck, PimEyes, etc.) don’t find any traces of the deleted media, does that make any difference, or does CBP already have access to it regardless?
Would appreciate any insights.

I highly highly doubt CBP has the resources to do a facial recognition scan on the web to every tourist who enters the US, they're quite well trained and savvy having your ins and outs into the country in their computer and if they smell something dodgy that doesn't add up they'll send you back. They do have a red flag system like young women travelling alone for a long period of time, people with little funds, certain nationalities, stories that don't add up, your phone browsing history, social media, wassap conversations and images stored etc..

I recently saw an ex sexworker explain that when he flew from the UK to Atlanta he was stopped when his passport was scanned and he saw it flag up that he could possibly be part of an international escort ring. He believes it was facial recognition from dead adverts on a gay escort site. As thats what they were interrogating him about. If you're UK based and concerned you can fly from Dublin and do pre clearance there and if you were refused at least you're closer to home.

Thanks for the reply. I don't show my face since 2,5 years, before that I did for 1 year. I didn't realise 'secrethostess' website was having 1 of the face photos I deleted from my ads 2,5 years ago without me having a clue it took pictures of my ads and was showing it on theirs, I requested to take it down recently and it's gone, so no facecheck engines find any traces of my face online

Homeland security did a massive raid on "rent boy.com" headquarters  in NY some years ago,  they took all hard drives, it was the biggest gay escort site at the time worldwide. If your friend had advertised there BP got his details in the system and he'll get flagged whenever he enters the US, (something similar happened with some women in the Eros guide when it got raided). Maybe that's what happened to him? Ask him if he ever advertise in that site.

I have in the past advertised on backpage in countries like Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. Because I didn't know anyone in those countries I showed my face.
I haven't been to the US since and I would be concerned about this. I don't have any plans to visit for now but if I do in the future I would definitely do preclearance in Ireland and not travel with anyone who didn't already know about my sex work.
Also having to clear everything SW related from my phone.  It would be stressful. I did spend some time in the US when I was younger working in strip clubs(illegally) but I was much more fearless then. I did have a few issues with border control but they always let me in eventually.

It was rent boy he advertised on! I've never been face out, I've mainly advertised on aw but did have a brief advert on back page maybe 2015? Is it just a case of them matching faces to your passport or would ID submitted to create adverts been shared too?

I haven't been to the usa since pre covid I'm due to fly back this year and will be doing pre clearance in Ireland. The 2 times I've gone as a solo traveller I've never had issues with boarder control bar having my suitcase being subjected to additional screening and a few questions about what was in it just before I left the airport.

They didn't like that I lived in Mexico. That is was travelling  alone. I think they questioned me. Searched my bags etc. Obviously I wasn't smuggling drugs so they let me through. Both times I entered through Texas. It was around 2012/2013. Entering the US is generally quite stressful. I don't really have any reason to visit now so I probably wouldn't bother.
