Lip Balm that won't rot latex?
« on: 15 May 2010, 09:17:15 am »
Anyone know a lipbalm alternative to my trusty vaseline?? Concerned that I will damage the condom during oral and then bust it open during intercourse. My lips are getting awful dry!!

No. Just about every oily, fatty or waxy thing you can think of is made of carbon-based oil, and that's the problem. The exception is silicone-based things. You could rub silicone lube on your lips and it might help a little, but I don't see it being very effective. I think there are silicone greases for lubricating machinery which you could try if you're desperate!

Otherwise, use a new condom for PIV. It's always recommended although I have to admit I usually don't.

Thats true, the only way is changing condoms or so it seems.
Best thing to do is solve your lip problem tho. Take lip balm EVERYWHERE!
Dont lick them, bite them or pick them no matter how bad the temptation. You will be cured inside of 2 weeks but keep up with the lip balm.

You can buy a non oil based lip balm from ebay.com

Its very cheap although postage from USA knocks it up a bit.
I have been using it for years and it is very good.
It does need applying a little more often than oil based ones though

You should change condoms between oral and normal sex anyway, since it's very easy to tear condoms with your teeth.

I looked it up, and eventually found the ingredients. I haven't studied any relevant chemistry past A level, but the main ingredient, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, looks to me like something that could degrade latex. There are also two vegetable oils further down the list.

My options for preventing condom deterioration are:

1) change condoms between oral and vaginal sex (bit of a pain and increases cost)

2) have lipbalm with you everywhere (I actually have pots and sticks in every handbag and all around the house) and just make sure you remove it well before oral and reapply later.

3) do OWO, but this obviously has other risks of it's own.

I take option 3  ;D

Also, just wiping off the lipbalm with your hand wont do much harm for a few minutes. Because it penetrates into your skin...yet its not enough to get on the condom.
