Ok, so I've just been enquiring about life and critical illness cover for me and hubby, and have been told that they won't cover me because of the job I do. I didn't see the point in lying or trying to cover it up, as if I do become critically ill or die then the policy wouldn't pay out and leave hubby up a creek without a paddle.
I explained that I'm probably less of a risk then the avarage girl who has partners and doesn't use protection and rarely gets herself checked, but they wouldn't have it.
Has anyone on here taken out life and critical illness cover and owned up to what they do? Pm me if you would prefer.
Many thanks

It's likely they don't have sex work listed as an occupation so can't work you out a premium because there's nothing to base it on - I found this when I tried to get business cover for clients having accidents and suchlike (I just got repeatedly asked if I was a masseuse, and as you say there's no point lying because you're not covered).
I don't know the answer either, but somebody might :).

That was one of the reasons Amy. The other I was told was that I was high risk regardless of what I'd said about check ups and taking precautions. The woman that was trying to sort it, asked if I paid tax. Which I do, so I'm wondering when she goes back to other underwriters to get more quotes whether this will stand me in good stead. Who knows.
As you say, hopefully someone will be able to help out.

I don't think you can get an income replacement plan as a self-employed person in any case, since all we self-employed need to do to become 'unemployed' is to stop working. I doubt you can insure that, regardless of profession.
As for life cover, maybe the International Union of Sex Workers or the English Collective of Prostitutes can help you further with some ideas? Your hubby may have to find a way to open his own plan, without you being on the policy. Citizen's Advice can probably help further on that one.

Yes I have been told by a few companies that this occupation(which ever word you wish to use for it), is considered high risk and say that they can't offer any cover.

Thanks for the info SG. I'll get in touch with the two that you mentioned and see if they can be of any help.
I don't see why hubby should suffer financially in the event of my death. Insurance companies are the worst.
